To add a trailer brake controller and the appropriate wiring adapter to your 2014 Nissan Frontier you will need the brake controller itself, such as the Power Trac # 39523 along with the wiring adapter # 3050-P. If you have a 7-way no other parts are needed, but if you do not you will also need 7-way/relay kit # 118266. You can refer to the linked video for illustration of the controller install process.

The Power Trac is a good value in a time-delayed type controller but most folks prefer the performance of a proportional type unit, like the Voyager # 39510. Proportional controllers sense the rate of your vehicle's deceleration and send a matching (or proportional) signal to the trailer brakes. This avoids most of the tug-of-war feeling that can happen with time-delayed controllers. You can refer to the linked article for more information. You can install the Voyager using the same wiring adapter # 3050-P.
