It really depends on the pin box and the type of adapter. In general cushioned pin boxes and pin boxes with movement are not recommended for use with adapters. Many 5th wheel trailer frame manufacturers do not allow the use of most adapters with the exception being Lippert provided that the adapter is a Reese Goose Box.
So for example if your stock pin box is a Lippert 1621 you could use Reese Goose Box # RP85FR which is rated for 20,000 pounds. The use of a Goose Box will not void the warranty of the trailer frame.
