Question:
2005 Dodge Durango, bought used, need key for roof rack, cylinder has E172 stamped on face, have not been able to find any key with corresponding number.

Looks like you are in need of the Thule replacement key part # THKEYN172. From what you described it sounds like you have an older Thule roof rack.
