Question:
I heard that the side view warning system could impact this step. Is that the case? What can I do to get around this?

If your 2015 Ford F-150 has the factory tow package with a 7-Way at the rear, then there is actually a pretty simple solution. The Tow Ready 7-Way to 5-Way and 4-Way Trailer Adapter for Trailer with LED Lights # C35FR will, for lack of better terms, boost the signal of the LEDs on the Pilot Hitch Step # CR-600LED so that your F-150 recognizes that something is hooked up.
Another possible solution is to use the Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56320 which will plug directly into the tail lights on your F-150.
LED lights look great and are a good solution for saving energy, but they do tend to cause problems for a lot of vehicles due to the less draw on power. Since a lot of trailers are now using LED lighting, this is compatible with trailers as well.
