Is Trailer Jack Weight Rating for Total Trailer Weight
Published 02/22/2017 >
Question:
I am looking to replace the trailer jack on my covered snowmobile trailer. 2000 Triton Elite All of the swivel jacks that I look at on your web-site have a weight capacity of 1500-1600 pounds. It would seem to me that the trailer, loaded with 2 snowmobiles would weigh more than that.... What am I missing/not understanding? Thanks for your help!

The capacities of our jacks are rated for the tongue weight of the trailer which is how much vertical weight is on the coupler/hitch ball.
Tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10-15 percent of the total weight of the trailer. So if you trailer weighs a few thousand lbs the tongue weight is probably right at 300 lbs for example. Which a swivel jack like the part # BD151460 would have no problem with.
