The reason the hitch fit guide asks about a bumper is because it will make a difference on where the hitch receiver sits in relation to the truck's frame. With a standard bumper, the hitch will sit a little higher off the ground and closer to the truck's frame. With a drop bumper, it will require more space between the mounting location and the hitch receiver to fit under the bumper. The bumper is not required for installation though.

One option for your 1966 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup, which is normally used with the standard bumper, is the Draw-Tite # 75034. From the mounting point to the top of the hitch receiver there is a 5-1/2 inch drop. It has a maximum Gross Trailer Weight of 5,000 lbs and a maximum Tongue Weight of 500 lbs.

Another option, which is normally used for the deep drop bumpers, is the Draw-Tite # 41504 hitch. From the mounting point to the top of the hitch receiver there is a 7-3/4 inch drop. This hitch has a maximum Gross Trailer Weight of 5,000 lbs as well it also features a maximum Tongue Weight of 500 lbs.

With those two options you can decide which hitch will work best for your customized C-10.

I have attached a help article to explain how to determine if you need a rise or drop shank like the shank in the Ball Mouth Kit # EBMK4

I also recommend using a wiring harness, like part # 18252.

I have attached some demonstration videos as well.
