2 Inch Class III Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Subaru Forester Limited

Updated 11/22/2010 | Published 11/20/2010

Question:

I just bought a 2010 Forester Limited. I need a 2 hitch for bike rack. What model do you recommend? And does the exhaust need to be lowered to install the hitch on the 2010 model?

We have 3 Class III hitches available for the 2010 Subaru Forester Limited, see link. Of the three options we offer, I would recommend the Curt Class III Custom Fit Receiver Hitch, item # 13147, which is the most economical hitch. All of the hitches for your vehicle install similarly and use the same attachment points, so they all will perform the same. The towing capacity of your vehicle is less than the towing capacity of any of the 2 inch hitches offered for it, so you will need to check the owners manual and stay within the vehicle towing limits.

The exhaust does need to be lowered. There are 5 rubber hangers that need to be removed. Use a spray lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator to ease removal. There is also a small amount of drilling required for installation of all of the hitches designed for this vehicle. I have posted a link to the instructions for the # 13147 hitch below for you to review.

This installation also requires the use of a fishwire. I have linked a video of the hitch installation on a 2009 Forester and a video of the fishwire being used on a vehicle.

Some items you may need to complete your Class III towing setup are listed below.

Wiring # 118467
Drawbar # C45010
Pin and Clip # PC3
Hitch Ball # 19260 or # 19247
