The Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195, is a great brake controller for any vehicle. It is an easy to read and understand brake controller that allows multiple boost levels and allows you storable settings, battery protection and continuous diagnostics. If you already have a brake controller, then you will just need the wiring to connect it to your vehicle and trailer.
There is not an electric brake controller plug-in under the dash of your 2003 Ford Ranger, so I would recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. This kit will provide you with a 7-way and 4-way trailer connector on your Ranger as well as all of the wiring needed to install the P3 Brake controller. It includes the circuit breakers, connectors, and all the wire needed. The installation instructions for this kit are linked and they will help walk you through the process.
In order to use this kit to install your brake controller, you must have a 4-way flat wiring connection for towing. If you don't already have this, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118344. This is a simple plug and play harness that plugs directly into existing wiring with no cutting or splicing required.
If you already have a 7-way connector installed on your truck, you would only need Wiring Kit for Electric Brake Controllers # 5506 to hardwire a brake controller.
I've included some videos for you and have attached an article on Brake Controller Installation.
