Question:
#118640 Trailer harness appears to require a separate power line connection to the battery. My trailer has LED lights. Is this separate power line still required? Thanks

Yes, on the wiring harness # 118640 you will need the black 12-volt power wire coming from the converter box to be connected to the battery on your 2016 Chevrolet Sonic. The converter box is necessary to protect the wiring of your Sonic and also your tail light circuits do not have enough capacity to power the LED lights on the trailer. The black wire supplies the power to the trailer lights and uses the signals coming from the Sonic's lights to determine which circuits to supply power to.
I've included an installation video of the wiring harness on a 2015 Sonic that will be the same as yours.
