The only way you may be able to open and close your 2010 Volkswagen Eos convertible hard top while a bike rack is attached is by using a trailer hitch and a hitch mount bike rack. It will depend on how far back your trunk moves for the hood to retract.

For a trailer hitch that is confirmed to fit your Eos I recommend the Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11090. This trailer hitch will allow you to carry up to 2 bikes on a Class I compatible trailer hitch while also using the stabilizer strap # 18050, which is required by Curt.

Your favorite local mechanic should be able to install this trailer hitch for you.

For a 2-bike, Class I compatible bike rack for your 2010 Eos, I recommend the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64670. This is a platform-style bike rack that will secure your bikes by both wheels and the upper frame bar. One reason I really like this bike rack for your vehicle is because the shank has a 3 inch rise, which will allow the bike rack to maintain a higher ground clearance than a rack with a straight shank.

Additionally, the upright arm of the bike rack will fold down when the bikes are not loaded, and then the rack folds up against the vehicle if you have room to do this. The rack will also tilt away from you VW, even with the bikes loaded. These features may help you keep the bike rack installed while operating your convertible roof.
