Question:
I would like instructions on how to install a 36196 on my 1999 dodge grand caravan. I realize the 36296 is for my van but I have a 36196 from my saab and would like to know if it would fit the caravan. I do not mind drilling new holes. please help me as I have 4 children, a nagging wife, a budget that is already in the red, and quite frankly - not enough beer in the bottle to help ease my mind!

The 36196 is a discontinued hitch that fit a vehicle that is configured totally differently than your 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. If you have to have a hitch installed on your van I can only recommend the part # 36296.
You might be able to rationalize it to your wife by saying that trying to modify your current hitch to fit your van would put her and your kids life in danger and no amount of money savings is worth that! Good luck!
