Question:

I am just to find a rooftop cargo basket will fit my Acura MDX Touring 2005 with factory installed crossbars that you might recommend. I made mistake of trusting an online review of a Reese basket sold at Walmart that said it fit my vehicle. Needless to say, it does not fit. The spacing is off by about an inch. The actual spacing of my crossbars C to C is 27-3/4. I read a previous reply to another question you had posted saying most MDX customers prefer a hitch mounted basket, but we have a hitch mount for bikes well be taking on this trip, so the rooftop is really our only option. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

I have two rooftop cargo baskets that I highly recommend for your 2005 Acura MDX Touring. I recommend looking at the Thule Canyon Roof Cargo Basket, # TH859XT, and the Rhino-Rack Cargo Basket, # RMCB. These baskets use mounting clamps that can slide forward and backward so you are not limited by the fixed adjustments of side to side rails on traditional cargo baskets. They will fit your 27-3/4 inch crossbar spread.

I have attached review videos of both baskets for you to check out. We also offer accessories such as a cargo net, # RLN1-RTD4, and tie-down straps, # RRRTD55P.

Before loading any cargo on your roof, you will want to remember that your Acura has a maximum roof weight capacity of 165 lbs. You will have to subtract the weight of the cargo basket - Thule (29 lbs.) and Rhino-Rack (31 lbs.) - from the roof's weight capacity to determine how much weight you can load into the baskets.
