Question:
2013 Jeep Unlimited HRubicon with a Poison Spyder bumper. Blue Ox Avail BX7420. Looking at the description of the product, it appears that the bolt that goes through the lug on the bumper will be in the horizontal position. On my bumper, the lugs are welded whereby the bolts would be in the vertical position. Is my understanding of how this attachment works correct? I see the part has up arrows indicating the position while in use.

When using the Adapter Lugs for Off-Road Vehicle Bumpers # BX88296 the pins would need to be horizontal and not vertical so it would not work with the mating ones welded onto your bumper. But I do have a potential solution for you.
You could have universal base plates installed, # BX88230, and not have to use an adapter. Drilling is required in the bumper to install these base plates. The base plates are rated for up to 5,000 pounds and from what I could find the max curb weight for a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a little over 4,300 pounds.
In addition to the base plates and the Avail tow bar # BX7420, which comes with safety cables, you will also need a lighting solution and supplemental braking.
For lighting you can use bulb and socket kit # BX8869. Our installers prefer the bulb and socket kits because they bypass the vehicle wiring and are among the easiest and most reliable systems to install. If you go with the bulb and socket kit I also recommend coiled umbilical kit # HM47054. One end plugs into a 7-Way on the RV and the other end plugs into the 6-Way included with the kit. Just wire up the wires from the bulb and socket kit to the 6-Way.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
