For a kayak carrier that is a direct fit to the factory crossbars on your 2016 Subaru Outback I recommend the Thule DockGrip, # TH895. The four saddles and tie down straps will easily secure your kayak.

I looked up the Hobie Mirage Outback and it weighs 81 to 99 pounds depending on how it is equipped. This carrier will support that weight range. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.

Since kayaks have to be tied down at the bow and stern as well I often get questions about where to secure the straps on Outbacks. That is why I recommend Malone Hood Loops, # MPG308 Close the little cylinders under the hood and in the hatch to create nice, easy to access tie down points.
