Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Ram 1500 Lone Star with a Blackhawk Tow Bar

Question:

I have a Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All terrain tow bar that I have been towing a Ford explorer. I have purchased a 2015 Ram 1500 Lone Star 4x4 and am needing baseplate/brackets to match the Blackhawk 2 tow bar that I have been using. Will the Kit 298-3 fit the 2015 Ram 1500 Lone Star.? I have taken off the factory hooks that came on the Ram 1500 and the frame construction looks the same as in the installation instructions for the Kit 398-3.

For your 2015 Ram 1500 you can use Roadmaster base plates # 52289-1 and they will be compatible with your Blackhawk tow bar # RM-422. Base plates # RM-298-3 fits Express and Sport models only.

If you need safety cables you can use # BX88197 which are rated for 10,000 pounds. For lighting, our installers prefer to use the bulb and socket kit # RM-155 because it is amongst the easiest installations and it bypasses the vehicle wiring.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
