Battery Charger Recommendation for a 16 Volt Racecar Battery without Alternator
Published 07/23/2015 >
Question:
I have a question as to if the 12v-16v 56-830 charger will charge quickly or slowly only? I drag race and later in the race, the rounds only have short times between them. Will this charger keep up for me? I know most other chargers used are 25Amp chargers.... Thanks

Sounds like your race car doesn't have an alternator and you need a charger like the # CTEK56830 to keep your battery strong between rounds. This charger would put 5 amps to your battery. 5 amps wouldn't be considered a quick charge by any means. But if your battery does a good job holding a charge and you have a decent enough amount of time between rounds the charger should work.
Using a lower amp charger will help allow the battery to stay strong for a longer period of time as opposed to hitting it with a higher amp charger all the time. 25 amp chargers are great for charging a dead battery to get it started for a vehicle with an alternator. Wouldn't be ideal for you since those quick charges don't tend to last as long as a slow charged battery.
