Trailer Hitch and Ball Mount Selection for a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan
Updated 07/17/2015 | Published 07/16/2015 >
Question:
You have several trailer hitches for my 2013 VW Tigaun S 2.0 front wheel drive. Im only going to connect a 4foot x 6foot trailer to haul bikes, kayaks, and occasional small loads less than 800#. Which hitch and ball size do you recommend? Thanks,

The most popular option we carry and the one I would recommend for your 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan is the Curt hitch part # C13133. This is a Class III hitch that would have plenty of capacity for your small trailer and since it is a 2 inch hitch it will have more available future accessories like bike racks that you could use since this is the most popular hitch size. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
When this hitch is installed it will measure 15-3/4 inches from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground. You will need to measure from the bottom of your trailer coupler to the ground when it is perfectly level and then compare that measurement to 15-3/4 inches. Whatever the difference is the amount of rise/drop you would need. I attached a page that has all of the ball mounts we carry. Select the rise/drop you need from the filters to see the ball mounts that would work the best for you.
The hitch ball you need will depend on what the coupler of your trailer calls for. On the product page for the ball mount you select there will be a related product section that will have all the ball sizes that will fit the ball mount.
For trailer wiring you would also want the # 119190KIT for a 4-way.
