Question:
Our 4 runner was advertised as having a tow package when we bought our toyota....but I have had 5 different people looking for the wiring harness under the dash, to the left of the steering column, under the e-brake, you name it and no one has been able to find it. It states in the manual that came with the toyota where to look for it to no avail!! Could it possibly be any where else? Any info you may have will be so helpful and I appreciate you getting back to me. Thank you

The factory brake controller port on the 2005 Toyota 4Runner should be located up under the dash to the left of the steering column. It is supposed to be taped to another wiring harness near the emergency brake pedal. It is possible that it is tucked up in there and you may have to remove the kick panel to locate it. I have linked a video that should help.
Although your Toyota was advertised as having the tow package, I recommend grabbing your VIN and calling your local dealer before you spend too much more time looking for the port. With the VIN they can determine if your 4Runner came from the factory with the tow package. A lot of dealer's like to install aftermarket towing packages and if this is the case, you will not have the port under the dash.
In the end if you can not locate the port, or there isn't one on your 4Runner, you can hardwire the controller using Wiring Kit, # 5506. I have included a wiring diagram for you.
