Question:
I have a 2009 silverado with tow package. Im wondering if I will have to cut/splice/connect wires or if it is a simple plug in and go. Thank you for your time.

The Draw-Tite Activator IV # 5504 will work with a wiring harness adapter like part # 20127, for your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. This means you will need to splice into the brake controller wiring under the driver's side dash in order to install the brake controller. There will be a bundle of wires tied together with white tape. These are the wires you will to connect your adapter to. You will want to connect the black brake controller adapter wire to the red factory brake controller wire, the blue adapter wire to the dark blue factory wire, the red adapter wire to the light blue or orange factory wire, and the white adapter wire to the white factory wire.
You will want to use two # DW05714 blue 16-14 gauge butt connectors and the two 12-10 gauge butt connectors in # 05732-2 to connect the wiring harness adapter to your truck's wiring.
After these connections have been made, we recommend binding all the wires together with electrical tape.
I have attached a help article on installing brake controllers in 2007-2013 Silverados for you. I also attached an installation video of this brake controller in a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.
