Question:
I was thinking of getting the etrailer motorcycle carrier, to haul my 250# dirt bike on the back of my fifth wheel. My factory receiver is rated at 300#s. With the 50# carrier, plus bike, I would be right at the 300# limit. I noticed the carrier is not recommended for a FW. Is this because it will bounce too much on the back of a trailer, or because of the hitch rating being lower than 500#s?

The etrailer Motorcycle Carrier for 2" Hitch Receiver # e98873 is not recommended for use behind a Fifth Wheel trailer or motor home because it will bounce too much at the back of a fifth wheel, like you suggest. That much weight loaded onto the back of a trailer that long can cause real safety issues.
Our other carrier, the Ultra-Fab #UF48-979033 states that it can be used behind a motorhome but not a 5th wheel. There is too much bounce on a fifth wheel and it can cause the rack to fail. Unfortunately, I know this from experience!
