Question:

I have a 20x8.5 Continental Cargo enclosed trailer with the overhead springs and cables on the rear ramp door. I use the trailer daily, and open the door 20+ times each day. The cables seem to wear and fray relatively quickly. Today, the right side spring broke. Would it be feasible to replace the overhead springs and cables with the external torsion springs on the hinges? I would like not having the cables in the way, and there would be nothing to break except a spring, which should lessen my down time in the event of an issue since I could carry a spare spring. I cant find any reference as to how much the door weighs. Can you tell me which spring I would need, and how many?

I believe you're referring to the # RS16933LH spring, is that correct?

These springs aren't meant for an enclosed trailer with a ramp door, they're meant for the very heavy steel ramps you'd typically see on the back of a trailer used to haul heavy equipment like bulldozers.

Your best bet would be to use a ramp spring like what you're already using, like part # ERS120D81. Installation of springs like these can be extremely dangerous, due to the tension stored in the spring. If you aren't experienced working with torsion springs, you'll want to have a professional compete the installation for you.
