Unable To Locate Access Holes In Frame Rail On 2016 Mazda 6 When Installing Trailer Hitch

Updated 04/01/2015 | Published 03/31/2015

Question:

I watched the video on your website and the video shows a 2014 model. On my car, where you are supposed to the locking piece of metal and bolt is not an opening like in the video. I dont see any opening that would allow the ion of a bolt or locking block. How is the hitch installed on the 2016 model? Thanks

I called my contact at Curt about your 2016 Mazda 6.

They told me that they have not seen the Mazda 6 without the access holes used when installing the # C11356 hitch. They did say that some of the manufacturers have inserted plugs into the holes or placed tape over the hole and painted it when they painted the frame rails.

You might want to check to see if there is an open end on the frame rail you can access. This would mean you need to extend the fishwire to reach that distance. If you cannot find an access hole, my contact suggested using a hole saw and drilling into the frame rail between the holes for the bolts. You would need to drill a hole that is large enough for the bolt head to slip through.
