Updated 03/31/2015 | Published 03/29/2015

Question:

Hi, Im considering downsizing from an SUV to the 2015 Beetle. Im a biking enthusiast and need to explore trailer hitches for this vehicle before I make a decision on the car. Do you carry anything like that?

We do offer a light-duty Class I hitch for the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle. If you have the non-turbo gasoline or turbo-diesel coupe you can use Curt hitch # C11260; if you have a convertible you can use Curt hitch # C11354. Both of these hitches will require use of a support strap like the # 18050 to maintain your hitch warranty, and both are limited to a 2-bike carrying capacity. This is true of all Class I hitches, by the way.

You will need to use a Class I-compatible bike carrier in either of these hitches. I have provided a link for you that will show you all 2-bike Class I hitch-mount racks. You have many options, including both hanging style and platform style racks. It is good to keep in mind that your hitch's 200-lb tongue weight capacity as you decide on a carrier. Clearly the lighter the rack is the more hitch capacity remains for the bikes and to provide a safety margin.

You might have a look at the linked articles on hitch racks to help you consider the best match to your particular bikes.

An example of an outstanding platform style rack is Thule's EasyFold 2 Bike Rack # TH903202. This folding rack's lightweight aluminum construction and advanced features like built-in wheels and foot-operated tilt make it an excellent option for a Class I hitch. It is perfect for heavier bikes and is protected by Thule's limited lifetime warranty. Please see the linked video.

If you prefer a platform style rack the Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 is a highly-rated and popular choice. With this carrier you can use hitch/cable lock set # S64031.

Feel free to let me know something about your particular bikes - type, weight, wheelbase - and I will be glad to work with you to find the best possible option.
