Get the Btu sizing that you need

Bigger isn't always better. Getting a furnace that's bigger than you need can cause problems. A major one is that it will burn even more propane than you need.

You really only need about 1,000 Btus for every foot of RV length. For example, a 20,000 Btu furnace would be good for a 20' trailer or motorhome. That's why we'd recommend this one for a 30' trailer.

Door or doorless?

If you're installing a new furnace, the decision between door or doorless furnace will depend on where its installed and how you can get to it for maintenance or repair. With a doorless version, only the vent plate will be visible on the outside of your RV. This gives you a cleaner look, but it also means that you must be able to access the furnace from the inside of your RV.

The doored version isn't really a door, but more of an access panel that is screwed in place. You shouldn't need to access your furnace regularly, but when you do, you will need that access panel if the furnace is mounted in a place that you can't easily get to inside your RV.

  • Replacement for AFMD35121 Furnace in 2018 Keystone Cougar 27SAB
Hi Harvey; the DFMD35 series (same as your AFMD35121) has been discontinued. This leaves you with two options. You can either downsize to a 30k Btu unit or move up to the 40k unit. The 30k will fit in your existing space but you will have a little less heat. If you go up to the 40k unit it will probably require enlarging your opening since it is 2" taller. You also need to match door for door or doorless for doorless when choosing the replacement. The 40k units measure 20" deep x 9" tall...

  • Exact Size Furnace Replacement Recommendation for Atwood 8531
Hey Kristoper, we have just what you need with the Dometic Furnace part # DMC54RR which has exact same dimensions as what you had at 16 1/2" W X 7" H X 20" D and also this has same 30k BTU rating so it will work perfectly for you. How old is the RV?

  • Replacement Furnace for a Atwood AFMD30121
That is correct Nathan. The Dometic RV Furnace item # DMC54RR, you were looking at is the correct replacement for the older AFMD30121. What kind of trailer or RV do you have?

  • Will Heat Pump of GE RV AC Unit Keep Travel Trailer Warm If 30 Degrees
Hey Fletch, the heat pump feature on the GE Appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC System w/ Heat Pump # GE85ZR is nice but it's not going to keep a travel trailer warm if its 30 degrees outside. You would need to have a furnace for those types of temps. We have propane furnaces though like the Dometic part # DMC54RR which puts out 30k btu of heat and would do a great job.

  • Looking For Furnace To Replace Hydro Flame Model 8241 In 1989 Teton 5th Wheel
Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out. That old Hydro Flame 8241 was a solid unit back in the day, but it’s been discontinued for quite a while. What I recommend for replacing it is the Dometic RV Furnace # DMC98RR. It’s compact (16½? W × 7? H × 20? D), 30,000 BTU output, runs on 12 V DC and LP gas, and comes with the white access door so you can service it from outside. It puts out plenty of heat, and will hook up to your existing gas lines and ducting with just a few tweaks. It should drop...

  • RV AC Unit and Furnace Recommendation for 1972 Airstream
Hey Heather, we have several RV AC units that would work great in your 1972 Airstream but my favorite is the Furrion Chill Cube like the part # FR69TD if your RV has roof ducting or the part # FR27TD if you have no ducting. For heat you would need a furnace that runs on propane like the 30 BTU part # DMC54RR and thermostat # DMC84RR. Is this along the lines of what you were thinking of?
