This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this CURT T-Connector vehicle wiring harness with four pole flat trailer connector. Now this wiring harness is designed to fit your 2011 to 2014 Scion XD and then your 2008 to 2014 Scion XD without LED taillights. On custom fit parts such as this wiring harness, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide, enter the year, make and model of your vehicle, and our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have another harness that will work for you. Now this harness is going to give you a four pole flat trailer connector at the back of your Scion to power your trailer signal lights.
This is also going to be compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters. Those adapters are sold separately. As you notice here, we do have a dust cap for that four pole flat connector and that cap is going to cover up your connection points here to keep it free from dirt, debris, and moisture when it's not in use. This black box on this harness is a powered taillight converter and this is going to ensure that your Scion's wiring matches out of your trailer. This is going to reduce strain on your vehicle's wiring system.
By the way, CURT does build each converter box using surface mount technology for consistent, reliable performance. It maximizes trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, ensuring superior operation in rough road conditions. Now this harness is designed to connect quickly and easily. You will need to locate your vehicle's wiring harness and it should be located behind the driver's side and passenger side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area and you will have to remove the connectors themselves or unplugged the connectors themselves. You wanna be careful not to break the locking tabs and then you'll insert these T-Connector ends between the vehicles wiring connectors and then you're gonna lock them in place.
These T-Connector are, these T-Connector ends are custom fitted for your Scion, so they're gonna match up perfectly with the connection points on your vehicle. They're gonna snap and lock together for a tight secure fit. Once you have these plugged in, you will need to make a good ground connection. The ground is this white wire, as you notice, it does have a ring terminal attached to it. And this does come with a self-tapping screw, so you can get this grounded to a suitable location such as your vehicle's frame or cross number.
You just wanna make sure the surface is clean and rust free. Next, you will need to mount your converter box to a safe out of the way location. You can do that with one of the mini cable ties included with this kit or the double-sided adhesive tape that's also included with this kit, to get this out of the way and secure it so it's not loose and flopping around inside of your vehicle. Now you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring, again with the cable ties that's included with this. And then once installation is complete, the four-way connector can be stowed in an out of the way location within your cargo area. Instructions are included to guide you through the installation process. And it is also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle end and the four pole flat connector itself. That grease is designed to prevent any electrical failures caused by corrosion or moisture. So on your screen, I am including our item number for that grease. Everything was simple and easy to install.
The picture did nit match the actual item inside the box.
I just installed this product on my xD and so far,so good. The only problem I may have with this is the mounting surface. There is really no good surface to mount nearby that will not hinderance the body's plastic mold. If anything, wish they can make the connector a little longer to the right taillight.
Otherwise, easy install and clear instructions. Also, the service rep (Seth) was professional and really nice. In fact, he help me save money. I would highly recommend etrailer to any one.
This is the first time I've used a wiring kit. In the past, I always soldered the wires into the harness. Man, this kit made the installation a breeze! Easily worth the price. I highly recommend it.
Easy to install. Small issue. Lights must be on to work. If lights are off the brake lights do not work. (Found out after buying new lights.) Other than that it is a nice unit and fit the bill. Just remember to turn on your headlight when using.
installed smoothly and didn't have any issues. only thing that i found was the label that showed which lights were which was gone. I figured it out from pictures by wire color, but would have been nice to be less confused on that one.
