Today, we're enabling our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to do a little bit more with the UWS truckbed toolbox. Right here is the matte black version, but if you like the gloss black, we have that as well for you on our site. But we do also have the shining aluminum. It all just depends on what kind of look you're really going for on your truck. This is the low profile design, so it's not gonna add a whole lot of height to the rails. I'd say it's about two and three quarters of an inch from the rails to the very, very top here.
This is also a crossover style, but it's gonna have a little bit less room underneath than some of the others on our site. It's about five and a half inches. Still enough to get a couple two by fours slid underneath there. Some ramps for whatever you wanna load up in here. But the nice thing about this is we have some stainless steel latches.
Very, very easy to use. All you have to do is pull it, and it goes up by itself with the gas struts. Notice how on the driver's side, we have a locking core. So that's typically where I'm at whenever I load everything up. Lock it up, get in my car and drive away.
But even on both sides, it's very easy to open up, 'cause we have a latch on both sides, but there's only one locking core on the driver's side. But you don't have to slam this thing down at all, both sides are gonna latch really easily. Simple as that. Notice how when I open it up from either side, when the lid goes completely open, the gas struts make it go slow, and then it goes pretty fast, but there's still plenty of room right here. So it's not gonna be any contact with our back hatch.
But also for some of the bigger items that we may have, we can pull 'em directly out. So that's kind of nice. You don't have to kind of pull it and then angle it back out. So if you have some of those bigger things, the lid opening that wide is very, very useful. But then notice also on the lid all the way around, all the way over here, and even all the way by you over there, we have a nice little seal there, which is really cool, because it's just gonna add an extra little barrier to prevent any dust or rain from getting in. But then notice how far this lip goes over the box. So this is just going to make it completely sealed up, so we don't have to worry about our stuff getting all dusty if you live on a gravel road like me. Doesn't take a whole lot of time to get dust to accumulate in your bed. But with this, all your tools and stuff are gonna be protected. The overall dimensions of the box from end to end is gonna be 69 and 7/8ths of inch. It's going to be a total of 20 inches deep. And when it comes to how tall it is, it's about 18 and 3/4 inches tall, which is a little bit taller than some of the others. So when we open this up, we can see exactly what we're working with. It says 10 cubic foot of space. That doesn't really do a whole lot for me, so this is what we got in here. If you do put like chains and stuff in a five gallon bucket, this is a pretty standard size. It is gonna be able to go in there, and you'll be able to close the lid, which is nice. But even just some of the other stuff that we have you know, shop towels, we do have a sliding tray, which is pretty good for the drills, the smaller drills. We can put some of our batteries in the other little section, and this is gonna slide across. So a good measurement. Let me take this bucket out real quick. You notice how it goes over our little shop towel box So that's probably maxing it out. So anything below 10 inches tall is gonna be able to fit. And the sliding tray is still gonna go. We still have a bunch of different boxes and stuff. I think this is the best way to haul tools, just because it keeps it nice and organized and everything like that. This one compared to some of the other ones, there is gonna be a little tab on the other ones for your screwdrivers. This one doesn't have it, just because of the angle on the side of the box. So I was curious, so I put 'em right there, and there's no interference with anything. So you're not really losing a spot for your screwdrivers. You're just gonna put 'em somewhere else. Notice the shape of the box, so it's gonna be a little angled. So down at the bottom, from end to end, it's gonna be about 46 inches, and then going all the way up to the top, it's gonna be about 59 inches. So when it comes to the floor, we're gonna have 46 inches of usable space. Whatever's not aluminum on this box is gonna be made of stainless steel. So all of these little mounting points for our struts and the little piece for our latching mechanism, you don't have to worry about them rusting away over time. There are some adjustments you can make, but out of the box, everything works pretty good. But if you have a specific amount that you want the door to open up, we can move this down. Or if you want it to latch a little bit easier or harder we can adjust this as well. So it is nice, you can kind of customize it to your stuff. But also a nice thing that I like about this box compared to some of the others is this little cover right here. 'Cause if you are loading this thing up completely, eventually you'll have something kind of hit that rod. And that rod needs to be able to move for those latches to engage or disengage. 'Cause if we shove a bunch of things in here, we close it down, and then maybe we slam on our brakes, or hit the gas really hard, it's gonna push up against here, and then your stuff's gonna kind of be locked in there. So they took the precautions so that won't ever happen with the UWS box. All the hardware that you need to install the box comes with it. There's not a whole lot to it. It doesn't take a lot of time at all. If you had an empty box and you wanted to take it off, it wouldn't take you much time at all. And it being aluminum, it's super light as well. And all you gotta do, put the washer down, tighten that up by hand, and then just take a 13 millimeter socket to tighten it down fully. The ultimate test for me is to see if the lid is gonna cave in this little aluminum box. And I've had some buddies of mine who have a steel box, and it kind of starts to bend in. But there's no flex or anything. You know, I'm about 160, 170 pounds wet. And I don't really feel a whole lot of flex there. So, with the UWS, comparing it to some of the top brands you may be looking at, I think the construction and everything is super solid. At the end of the day, I think trucks need to have a toolbox in the bed of the truck. 'Cause one, they look good. Two, it just enables your truck to do a little bit more. Now we can have a nice secure place in the bed of our truck for all of our tools so we can leave the cab and everything nice and clean. And that's pretty much it for our look at the UWS truckbed toolbox on our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500..

Check out the pictures you can see how well it fits! It is hard to find a toolbox that fits a Ford ranger stepside I used to work in the Marine Corps parts department in the motor pool so I know how to measure parts at first they said this wouldn't fit my truck but I told them I measured it!

The tool box works great. Works for what we needed and is low profile.
I've had bed box for almost a year now. So far so good. The finish looks as good as the day I installed the box, which by the way was a snap to install. I'm very happy with this product and glad I didn't go for one of the less expensive products like a few of my buddies did. Most of them have constant problems with their bed boxes. IE: hinges freezing up latch problems and most of all the finishes that aren't holding up.
I've had this tool box for about a year. Its held up well without issue. This replaced a 9 year old tool box from Lowes that cracked at the bed support. So far so good on this one. The locking and opening mechanism works great and is covered so things dont bind it up. The only strange thing is that after a windy snow storm there was snow inside the tool box and I hadn't driven anywhere.
I was so happy to get this for my son. The only one i could find that would fit his ranger at the time. he uses it every day and it works great after one year. packaging , no scratches, and installed so easy that i went and bought me one. would recommend. sorry not much for technology or i would have added photos.
When I purchased the toolbox I forgot to mention that I have a bed liner in my vehicle. Therefore I had to put a 3/4 inch spacer on the top bed rails so the bottom of the toolbox would clear the bed liner over the wheel wells and fuel tank spout. Other then that I really have enjoyed the toolbox and have gotten many compliments as well.
Been happy with my purchase. I gave it 4/5 stars because it arrived with a dent on the lid that I was able to remove with a rubber mallet and a 2x4. The metal inside reflects poor workmanship. There are some sharp edges near the latch mechanism that I discovered firsthand after reaching in there. Aside from those issues it has functioned well and I find the dual lid release latches are convenient.

The truck box is a good looking truck box but that’s about all the good I can say about it. The striker for the latch continuously came loose causing the lid not to latch completely and the top to come open going down the road. I fixed this by putting loctite on the nuts holding the striker in place. The gaskets along the lid have completely turned loose and are no longer there. The keys never worked from the first day. Overall not very satisfied with the quality of the box for the price.
