This Curt trailer hitch gives you a solid 2" x 2" receiver opening that works with most ball mounts, bike racks, and cargo carriers. With a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 500 lbs — or up to 6,000 lbs GTW and 600 lbs TW when used with weight distribution — it’s ready for light to moderate towing and gear hauling. Whether you’re pulling a small trailer or adding space for bikes and cargo, this hitch is built for dependable strength.
The fully welded, square-tube design bolts straight to the frame using factory holes — no drilling or welding needed. It comes with a complete hardware kit and installation instructions so you can get it done right in your driveway with basic tools. The precision, robotic welding ensures a perfect fit and solid alignment every time, saving you the headaches that come from poor tolerances or modifications.
The gloss black powder coat finish sits on top of a protective base coat, giving you superior corrosion resistance against rain, road salt, and grime. The sturdy steel construction means you won’t have to worry about flexing or failure under load. It’s the kind of heavy-duty build that stays looking good and working tough no matter how many miles you tow.

Curt Manufacturing doesnt have any information indicating that the 2nd generation Trooper was ever factory equipped with a rear skid plate. If the plate is a dealer-installed or aftermarket installed part, then it would need to be removed in order to install the hitch. Many Troopers were installed with a front skid plate however, which could explain the difficulty youre having. This hitch is meant to be installed on the rear of the vehicle, not as a front mounted receiver.
