Video Transcript for Duracap Explore Hard Camper Shell Truck Topper In-Depth Review

I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we are gonna be talking about the Duracap truck topper. So let's take a closer look at it. So when it comes to protecting the back of your truck, there's a couple options you can go with. Of course you could go with the tonneau cover, but they are gonna be a little bit smaller if you wanna store stuff back here and have it enclosed, that's where a hard top topper comes into play. And other ones do a good job that give you that protection from the elements and from any would be thieves.

And this one does that too, but what I like about it is it kind of has this aggressive look to it with this coating we have on it and it's perfect for a couple different people, whether you're someone who's going out camping, you wanna make sure you have some air ventilation coming through here 'cause you can open up these windows and they have screens so bugs don't get in too. But we also have this little ventilation point here at the very top of it. It's also gonna be great for if you're someone who works in construction or a contractor, you have anything in the back of your truck and you wanna make sure you are getting airflow so you don't get any mildew building up. That's where this comes in play too, but let's get our hand more on it on these touch points. The first touch point we're gonna talk about is gonna be the actual door itself since we gotta use it the most.

So with this I like about it, it is very lightweight. It's gonna be made from aluminum but still pretty tough. And what's nice about this is a few things. One, when we are operating it, we don't have to really press on there too hard, but it lifts itself up and that's gonna because we have two gas struts on either side. Now other thing I do like about this door though is when I go to close it, you're gonna notice that we do have this tinted window on the back of here so no one can come by and see what you got going on in the back.

The other touch point we we inchesre gonna have is gonna be this vent at the very top of here. And this one's actually pretty cool. So all you do is kind of squeeze this handle here and push forward. And now that's gonna allow air to come through here. Great again, if you're camping, you don't wanna get too stuffy.

This does go both ways. So make sure you are pushing it in the right direction. And then we're also gonna have our windows here on the side. All I gotta do is pull on this tab, pull this out. And with this open this is gonna be nice 'cause it allows this breeze to come through here without letting those bugs in as well. But you can still see outside relatively well. The one issue though, having a truck topper is if you have anything way in the back of your truck that you might need one day, it can be a little bit of a hassle to get to. So I'm gonna give you a couple recommendations that I would have for you. So the first one is gonna be a bedside from BedSlide. And what they have is a pretty heavy duty slide that just pulls out so you can get everything you need. This is gonna be perfect for anyone who is a type of contractor where it has anything really heavy. Another option that's gonna be more affordable for more so the everyday guy. I'm gonna recommend the Truck Trolley. And what's nice about that is it's gonna be more lightweight. And if you ever do have to remove it, they really utilize all of your bed space. It's a pretty simple process for taking it out. And the last one is gonna be something more simple. There's gonna be a simple bar, here's what I have right here, but we have some other ones on our website. And if you have everything a little bit smaller that you just need to reach and grab, one of these does go a long way. I wanted to come out here and focus on the exterior real quick. So we're gonna have a pretty good look. So when it comes from going to from the cab to the top of this topper, that's pretty seamless and that's gonna be the thing with most of these. And we don't have too much of a gap in between the actual truck and the topper itself. And I wanted to talk about this finish. This is gonna be this urethane finish. And what I like about this is it's gonna be fairly rough to the touch, again, giving you that more rugged look. But if we come to the very back of the truck, we're gonna notice we do have that third brake light back there. And that is gonna be operational. We have that wired up today. And in a lot of states this is gonna be a legal requirement. But with that being said, since we are getting powered to this, we need to find a way to route it to a vehicle. So in a lot of cases you're just gonna be taking some wiring and connecting it to one of your tail lights. In our case with this truck, we actually had to route this all the way to the interior of our driver's side. It's gonna be a little bit different for everyone. And if you don't feel super comfortable splicing into your wiring, then you can actually use our in store locator to help you find someone near you who can put it on. You can also check out some of our videos. I do have one with this specific truck and I talk about that process of how to install it, not just with the wiring, but the inside of this and the whole assembly process. So overall, I think this is gonna be a great option for anyone who does want that hard topper experience, but you want some added benefits to that. And that's gonna be where you have this more cool finish and we're gonna have that extra ventilation so you can be pretty comfortable in there or you can make sure you don't get any mildew built up in the back of your truck. Now another really good option that I do like is gonna be one from Westin. With the Westin topper, what's unique about that one is it's also gonna be lockable with a key fob that you get wired into your actual truck. But you can also open up some side panels on either side. So it makes accessing the very back of your bed a little bit easier. But with that one, that's gonna be at a little bit more of a premium price range. And it's also gonna be dependent on how you're using the truck. So if you're not really getting into the very back that often, then this is probably gonna be the better option, especially if you do like this finish more. Now if you guys have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer and again, I'm Matt and thanks for watching.
