Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at these Carr custom fit aluminum Super Hoop side steps. Now, you're gonna be able to get this as either a set of two, as I have here on my table currently, or you can just get this as one step. Maybe you need, like, a replacement step. So whichever quantity is going to work best for you, just take the appropriate part number that you see there on your screen, pop it in the search field of our website.
That will take you to that quantity, and you can add that to your order. So these are custom fit hoop steps that are designed to fit the following vehicles that you see there. So your Ford Expeditions, F-150s, F-250s, 350s, 450s and 550s. So it is important that you go through our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer. Put in the year, make, and model of your vehicle, answer any other questions that it has for you, and our fit guide will confirm if these steps will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you.
Now, these custom fit Super Hoop side steps are gonna be a great option for you to consider if you're looking for an easier way to get in and out of a taller truck or van without adding a full-length running board. So instead of running along the whole side of your vehicle, these are individual hoop-style steps that are going to mount below your door area. So they're gonna have a more compact yet rugged look. Now, these do have a multi-mount system that's going to let you mount these to your rocker panel area rather than directly to the vehicle frame. And depending on the vehicle, drilling may be required.
So these do include instructions to guide you through that installation process. Now, giving you a slightly overhead look here, I'm getting my tape measure here, just wanna show you here that the actual step area is gonna be right at about 17 inches long. And then the width, hopefully you can still see that, it's gonna be right at about five inches. So this is going to give you quite a large step area. And this features a non-slip tread here that's going to give you a nice, firm grip with your shoe or boot when you're stepping on here.
So you're not gonna have to worry about easily slipping, especially if the weather is wet or inclement. And this is going to give you about a six-inch drop. So that's going to really allow you to have a more comfortable way of getting into your vehicle, especially if it's a taller vehicle. These are rated for up to 500 pounds, which is one of the stronger selling points that we hear from our neighbors regarding these steps. So it's gonna give you a nice, firm, yet secure way to get into your vehicle. And these steps are made from cast aluminum and they feature Carr's XK3 Khromezone chrome-like double powder coat finish. So rather than polished aluminum, these have more of a matte chrome look to them. Kind of a, matte is probably the best way for me to describe it. It's not polished or anything like that. So it looks very durable. I think it's gonna hold up really well for you. The hardware is going to be zinc-plated steel. And so you're gonna have everything that you need here for installation, the hardware, the multi-point mounting brackets here. We hear back from our neighbors regarding these steps, and they tell us that they really do like the larger stepping area, especially compared with smaller hoop steps. We have heard several mention that these steps made getting into and out of those taller vehicles noticeably easier, especially for older passengers. And a lot of people like the appearance as well. And I'm a big fan of this this Khromezone finish. This is a relatively new finish from Carr, so I think it's gonna look great on your vehicle. My husband had back and knee surgery so getting in and out of his truck was very challenging even with the running bars. Bought these to see if they would help and I can honestly say they have. And they look GREAT on his truck as well.
Mounts to the rocker panels. Like the extra width to step in. Would have rated better if it was mounted to the frame.

Mine still look brand new after a year because they are still sitting in the box. Although the application included my vehicle, apparently you have to remove the body from the frame in order to drill the necessary holes in the narrow clearance areas. I might have liked the product if I could have installed it but that never happened.

They were kind enough to email me back with the information on the whereabouts of my super hoop steps. Following day it was here and I quickly went and installed them. Nice product, installation wasn’t too difficult. A parts list would have been nice. Took a fair amount of experience to put all the bolts into the right spaces. There were extra nuts and bolts to facilitate different truck set ups. Better to have a second pair of hands to hold the step in place while marking the holes to drill. Mine was mounted a little unsquare but it still went together. Shipper was a little rough on the package but little to no damage.
Ordered these as a replacement for old ones.
One broke and the other lost most of the coating. Since those came with the truck I could not warranty.
New ones fit like a glove since I had the old brackets, 8 bolts and nuts and we're good to go!
Hopefully these will last another 8 years, if not I see the manufacturer has a lifetime warranty on them anyways.

The online photos appeared to show the steps closer to the cab. I am not satisfied with the amount of drop of the steps. Attached, they hang lower than my current factory installed mud guards.

I wanted the Carr Super Hoops for my 2003 Chevy Express Van, but there was not a model listed for that application. I purchased the Model 124031 Carr Super Hoops since that model is the most versatile and includes the most varied hardware for the varied mounting applications.
Delivery was very timely as expected. Once received, the hardware seems of good quality and the black finish was just as I had hoped for.
I started by mounting 2 each 1” square tube spacers to the bottom of the existing Chevy foot well. The Chevy foot well turns out to be 2 thicknesses of body sheet metal with a stiffening ridge formed on the topside of the foot well (under the removable plastic foot well liner). I then thru bolted a 6”x24”x ¼” aluminum plate (6061,T6) thru those spacers to the bottom of the foot well with ¼” bolts. I was then able to mount each of the supplied Carr brackets to the bottom of the aluminum plate with 1, ¼” bolt and 1, #10-24 machine screw. The smaller (weaker) machine screws are expected to break if the hoop is hit from below by road debris or rocks.
Note that this installation leaves either the hoop frame to close to the ground, or the step surface angled significantly off of the desired horizontal. Therefore, I had to make some “treads” to mount on the step surface of the hoop frame. I chose to make these “treads” out of wood first to make sure I could make them work and look nice.
The new “treads” were successfully made on a table saw from a pine 2x6 and ended up being acceptably “level”. This installation left a shade over 10” of ground clearance below the bottom of the hoop frames (standard curbs seem to be between 8” and 9”). Now that I know how to make the “treads”, I plan to make a pair from some UV stabilized black plastic to replace the wooden prototypes.
If I were doing this over again, I could have just bought the cheapest model with the needed brackets. I was not able to use any of the extra hardware beyond the hoops and brackets themselves.
This installation makes entry and exit from the van much easier for my wife and I as well as our aging friends. I just didn’t care for the appearance of the full length running board systems.

Love the first steps I installed on our 31 year old truck new reconditioned to a classic. Unfortunately that company changed to powered coated so I got polished chrome and powered painted like chrome steps making a huge difference on crew cab so noticeable totally not the look I wanted.
