Video Transcript for Carr Custom-Fit Side Step: The Breakdown

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Carr Hoop II Custom-Fit Side Step. This is a very stylish and sturdy cast aluminum alloy step that's going to provide a five inch drop to help make it easier for you to get into and out of your vehicle. Now this step is going to have these mounting heads here that are a custom fit for several different year ranges and packages of the RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 as well as the Sterling Bullet. So to ensure that you're getting a product that fits your vehicle, I would encourage you to use our Vehicle Fit Guide here at etrailer.com. You'll select your year, make, model and we'll show you which products will fit your vehicle so you can make sure you're getting the right fit the first time.

So go ahead and use that. But if this has been shown to fit your vehicle, it is going to be very, very simple to get it installed. These heads use a multi-mount system that is going to provide a nice simple and precise fit. They also include instructions to walk you through how to get this installed, as well as all the hardware that you're gonna need to install this on your vehicle. These mounting heads are constructed of a zinc-plated steel so they are going to be a nice, sturdy connection to your rocker panels.

The step platform, once you get it mounted in place, it is going to provide a nice, large, seven inch long by three and a half inch wide, flat step platform. So it's gonna be plenty of room for you to put your foot on to step up into your vehicle. You can see this does have this non-slip, diamond tread for excellent stability and traction so that you're not gonna have to worry about your foot slipping off. This does have a max weight capacity of 500 pounds. So this is gonna be very strong and durable for you.

You can see the hoop style. This is gonna give it kind of a rugged off-road, sort of look. So it will be a nice add on to just about any vehicle. It's going to have an overall length of ten inches. And in addition to being that rust-proof aluminum construction, it is gonna have this XP3 Extreme Black Powder Coat finish that's going to resist chipping, peeling and fading.

That's gonna give it this nice, lightly textured, matte black appearance. So it is going to complement just about every application. No matter what your paint scheme is, this is gonna look really nice on your vehicle. This is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the U.S. It also has a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any problems with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. We're always happy to work with our customers to make sure you're getting good, quality products and having a good experience. So, if you are needing just a little bit of help to get up or out of your vehicle, this is gonna be a great add on for you. Very easy to get installed and to use as you're getting in and out. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

The title says polished aluminum but the product I received was powder coated.

Fit and looks good. Solid no sag. 2017 ford e450 church bus.

by:

My husband was able to install these on our 1989 F150 without issue. Thank you!

I bought these Carr steps to dress up my 2019 Ram 2500. I’m going for the ‘utilitarian minimalist chic’ look and these nailed it far better than the factory running boards.

What I liked -

- Heavy duty- steps and hardware feel substantial
- Mounting kit made specifically for my truck
- Straightforward instructions
- Super solid and stable
- Look far better than nerf bar steps
- Brackets came slightly expanded which made fitment easier. They bent in to a tight fit once the bolts were torqued down

What I have mixed opinions on -
- I had a tough time getting just the right fit, as the lip on the truck isn’t that big, perhaps 3/4”. Some holes I drilled using the “hold up the bracket and mark with a sharpie” method were too low, leaving not quite enough material beneath the hole. Other holes that were a little on the high side made for a tough fit of the bracket. So be patient, measure twice, drill once
- There was a whole bunch of extra hardware! Sort it all out on the counter beforehand to see which jives with the instructions and set the others aside
- Had some bad washers in the hardware kit

Well made, did not provide lower step than existing side rail

My order arrived in less than a week and it took about a hour or so to install. Instructions were clear and easy for most any fitment. For my Chevy it could not have been any easier. This truck is for my daughter who has spina bifada so it enables her to climb in easier. The steps look great and I'd highly recommend them and etrailer. I've used etrailer a few times now and will continue as they have quality parts at some of the best prices!

Easy installation, looks great!

by:

Originally ordered these as a replacement for the front. Did not check size before ordering.
Decided to put them under the rear doors instead.
Since I already had them on the front and was able to see how they were mounted, it made the install was a piece of cake.
The instructions were clearly understood for my Silverado and only took me about 15 minutes per side to install.
I have since ordered the larger pair for the front and will use the same brackets to replace.
Only gripe is the finish on the ones that were originally on the truck (8 years old) has chipped off due to mag chloride on the road and frozen ice being knocked off.
Since I was not the original purchaser, I cannot claim warranty issues as they are guaranteed for life.
Hopefully with the new ones Carr perfected their coating, we will find out in another 8 years!

by:

Reasonably easy install. I installed on an AWD Sprinter and the height is just about right. I may add a few more screws to the top later if it loosens up.

by:

My husband added a step to our 68 Chevy Pickup

by:

Just what I needed. High quality and easy installation. Note that on my 2010 Silverado there is a sheet metal brace under there that determines where they can be mounted (four inches forward of the seat front edge).

I purchased "Carr" steps for our "new" 1989 Ford F150. The hardware supplied with the steps was excellent compared to some imported products. There were good instructions and everything fit. This will help by spouse get in and out safely and with a bit more dignity.

by:

This worked excellent to put on an existing running board to create a half step for my wife to get into my 2012 Avalanche much easier. I had to alter it slightly to mount it but am very happy with the result.

by:

Did quite work well for promaster. Product was good quality, just bad angle when mocked up.

by:

The steps were back ordered. Nick from etrailer notified me and kept me updated on expected shipping date. They arrived ahead of projected date. As far as the steps, they are installed and look great. They are sturdy and very well made.

by:

These were very easy to install and they are wonderful! Makes it so much easier to get in and out of my cab on my 2019 Ford E350 motorhome. Very sturdy and they look really sharp. Excellent price.

by:

They've made it easier for the ladies in my life to enter and exit my vehicle easier

by:

I finally installed the side steps that I bought from you guys. Check it out

by:

I own a 1997 F250 crew cab truck. I got tired of wearing the driver seat down getting in and out without some type of step. I've always liked the "stirrup" style steps and was happy to stumble across your website. After seeing the actual product AND HARDWARE in the kit, I ordered immediately. The steps arrived several days later and I installed them that night. Very happy with the steps, shipping, and quality of the boxes they arrived in. Took me several minutes to get to the product as the boxes were secured so well. The hardware provided was perfect. I will order 2 more for my rear doors in the near future. Thank you!

by:

Exactly what I was looking for. As we get older the simple things like stepping up on a mower can become precarious. My wife needed a step for her zero turn and this really fit the bill. It took just a little ingenuity, but this isn’t really what it was designed for. Cheers

by:

Good quality. Made some adjustments to fit my side rails. Painted brackets and bolts. Drilled holes to fit 3/16" self tapping screws. Bent rear tab flat. Works great so far.

by:

Had to remove the rock slide to install which was no big deal, other then that installation was easy. Steps look great quality is great I really like that they don't stick out to far so I'm not hitting my shins. Will be adding some for rear doors soon.

by:

The steps themselves are solid, and make getting in and out of our truck easier, esp. for older folks. I have a minor issue with the installation instructions, however. In the instructions, they state:

" 8. *REFER TO DIAGRAM “A” WIRE HARNESS. Remove the plastic cover that is holding the carpet down and move the wire harness out of the way before drilling out the hole for the next step as shown on the diagram. Do
this procedure for both sides of your vehicle, because the wire harness may be on either side."

There's insufficient space to move the wiring out of the way as the hole for the sheet metal screw ends up dead in the center of the channel , so I used a piece of angle iron slipped under the wiring to protect the harness while drilling the hole. Once I installed the screw, I realized that the sharp point of the screw would be rubbing against the harness, and would eventually cause a short. To prevent this, I slipped the extra 1/4" Nyloc nuts provided in the kit over the sharp end of the sheet metal screw as shown in the photo.

I realize that there's not much room to use another type of fastener and working around the harness is awkward, but I think the sheet metal screw should really be replaced with another fastener that doesn't present a hazard to the harness. A 1/4" Torx button head bolt inserted from the top would definitely be an improvement, for example.

by:

Matte black finish and heavy duty construction. Easy install on a 2024 2 door Rubicon and a 2024 Mojave. I would recommend laying out all the parts and organizing them. The shorter bolts are for the rear of the bracket while the longer are for the front toward the step. I would also recommend drilling the pinch weld area, attaching the bracket to the pinch weld area, and then drilling the hole for the sheet metal screw. This is perfect if you need a step but don't want to lose your rock sliders. They can be easily removed by taking off two bolts and two sheet metal screws for each side if you are wheeling. I wouldn't order from anyone other than etrailer. They are the only site with a review and install video. They offer great customer service if you run into a problem and fast shipping. I am very happy with etailer and Carr.

Steps are finally mounted, just what we needed for WiFu to get in and out of the truck! They look good too.
