When you need to keep tools, gear, or valuables safe, this hard retractable tonneau cover gives you peace of mind. The 1" thick aluminum slats are impact and weather resistant, and the flush-mounted locking handle secures the cover at any point along the rails. Close it up with your locked tailgate for maximum protection against theft and weather. The latch can also lock partially open, letting you cover smaller items while leaving space for oversized cargo.

Covers that bind or stick get old fast. This one glides open and closed on sealed ball-bearing rollers without needing lubrication. There are no joints, hinges, or springs to freeze or wear out, so it stays smooth even in cold or dusty conditions. A pop-up handle makes it easy to slide the cover one-handed from either side of the bed, and it retracts fully into a canister at the bulkhead when you need full access.

The space-saving canister keeps the retracted cover protected and out of the way. Its spiral track system prevents the cover from rubbing against itself, reducing wear over time. The angled bottom takes up less room in the bed, leaving extra space to slide long items or smaller gear underneath. Two drain tubes built into the canister route away any water that gets inside, keeping the stored cover dry.

Hauling in the rain or snow is no problem. Weather stripping and foam seals on all sides keep out water, dust, and debris, while the cover overlaps the tailgate for a tighter barrier. The matte black finish resists scratches and fading, holding its color and texture season after season.

Each aluminum slat is built strong enough to handle up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight. The design sits just 1" above the bed rails for a low-profile look that stays sleek and sturdy. Installation is straightforward—no drilling required. The rails clamp on securely, and the system is ready to go once the drain tubes are routed through the existing bed holes.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover in matte black. You can upgrade your old tonneau cover and not have to worry about any snapping or hook and loop connections. The RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover is the best way to cover up your truck bed. One of it's great features is, it can be locked anywhere along the rails you please. It's perfect for keeping your gear dry, covering up that fifth wheel head and you can even use it to secure your elongated cargo. The latch itself doubles as a handle. When you're ready to lock it, it sits flush within the cover and you can lock it up with the included keys.
When you've done that you can put the cover over top. The whole thing rolls up into the flush mounted box for a low profile design. It only takes up about 12 inches of space behind your cab. It's a simple clamp on installation and the rails only sit about an 1-1/4" high on top of our truck bed rails. Here on the inside they take up about 1-3/4". The sealed ball bearing rollers within the cover make opening and closing easy.
And because they're sealed, they're maintenance free. The whole thing is made out of an industrial strength aluminum, it's gonna keep out the elements and it can support distributed loads of up to 500 pounds. When used with the locking tailgate, it's furthers your security. The whole thing is UV protected and it features a limited lifetime warranty. It's an easy no drill installation, it simply attaches to your truck bed rails with the provided clamps. And that's going to complete our look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover.
Ratings & Reviews
What I appreciate the most is this cover is low profile (works with my fifth wheel) and can be operated from the side and locked in position wherever I'd like. Just the other day I took note of someone with a different brand that required a rope to pull closed. I'm glad I went with the aluminum version as it feels and sounds solid. The finish has stayed great looking. After watching a few installation videos while waiting for it to arrive, the process went very smoothly. The only time I needed assistance was in lifting the assembled parts up onto my truck.
Here are the things I wish were better/different:
Front seal - the instructions state to trim the front rubber seal to follow the lines of the hardware (so there isn't a little exposed flap of rubber). Having done that, the small pieces on the sides have vibrated out into the newly empty space. This is a minor thing.
Mounting system - I installed the mounts as instructed, and did not over-tighten things. A number of months later I spent the day exploring on some unpaved Utah backroads. The bumps caused all four of the mounts to let go, drop into the bed of the truck, and the whole cover system shifted around on the truck. I contacted etrailer and their advice was to tighten the mounts more aggressively and they'd replace the screws if I damaged them. I have not had the issue repeat itself.
Locking Partially Open - This has worked very well until recently. I can have the cover 25% of the way closed while towing, protecting the items at the very front of the bed. However I now want to have the cover 90% closed and locked when I have a tailgate pad installed on my truck for carrying bicycles (and this is when the bikes are not with me). When I do this and drive around, the cover slides open a foot or two from when I've been hitting the brakes. I haven't tried to figure out how to correct this yet as it is a new issue.
Overall I'm very happy and would buy the RetraxPRO again.
A very nice cover. So far, it’s kept the bed and it’s contents dry. I had the face of the cartridge (the part that becomes the rear of the bed) sprayed with Line-X to match the rest of the bed and to offer some degree of protection. But the metal is very thin there and it didn’t take long for it to become dented. Also the drain fittings that attach to the bottom of the cartridge are delicate. I’ve had to order replacement fittings and it looks like the second set have broken again.
I love this cover. I had one on a different truck, but it had the rails that could be used for a bike, kayak or ladder rack. I thought I had purchased the same rails, but when received, found that it was not the same. I didn’t realize it until after I installed it. Wish I had noticed it earlier as the rails to replace are $500. Be certain you order carefully.
I have owned this roll top truck bed cover for a year now and still absolutely love it. I've owned other similar ones over the past twenty five years and this one is and has been the best. Sturdy, solid and so far, maintenance free. It certainly more weather (water) resistant as well. It definitely was more expensive than the other covers I've purchased in the past but the bitterness of poor quality remain forever and the higher cost of something well made are soon forgotten as you use the product everyday. Highly recommend.
High quality cover that works great
My third Retrax. The fit and finish is on point. Nice job... Again!
Easy installation. No problems after a year on my truck. Very satisfied with the purchase.
Only had this cover for a few weeks but it so far.
I had some damage. It was a dent in the main box. I went ahead and used it anyway. I didn’t call or ask for return because I needed the cover right away and I messed the box up which would make the return hard to do. This was not etrailers fault. It was a packing issue from Retrax.
The RetraxPRO MX Hard Tonneau Cover was very easy to assemble and install. Item was packaged very well for shipping. I would recommend this tonneau cover.
Very well built and easy to use, great product.
Vert good quality. No failures despite repeated use.
This cover looks amazing and rolls so smooth. No heavy trifold flipping. I have the 8’ bed and it works great.
On my previous truck, we had installed a soft snap-on tonneau cover. While it looked great, its performance over time decreased significantly, particularly in cold weather! So this time around, I decided to splurge and purchase a high-quality roll-top hard cover. I am SO HAPPY that I did! As importantly as its ease of installation and use, it is lockable so I will no longer have sleepless nights while traveling, worrying about the items in the truck bed. eTrailer was a great help in expediting the delivery of this item, as my HOA requires pickup trucks to have their beds covered... Thank You!
I like the old latch system better.
The wire loom for drains is not going to last long.
Great quality very happy with this. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice retractable cover.
Item came on time and was very easy to install, but you need somebody to help you lift and put in the back of the truck as instructed. Its not that heavy, but just too awkward for one person to lift and place.
The tonneau works well. I wanted something that would be pretty secure (aluminum and locking) and easy to open/close. It is all those things! One handed open/close. Few pieces that are below the cover level so it doesn't interfere too much with what you have in the bed. Install was ok - definitely two people are easier than one.
Two downsides. The roll up area does take bed space - more than I'd like. Also, it is not watertight. Not terrible in the rain, but a good downpour or car wash gets water in the bed.
Quality product. Bought to protect and hide fifth wheel hitch. Does a great job!
Nice product. More difficult to get the rails attached than it should have been. Very glad I had 2 strong guys helping me.
Love the results.
This was a really easy installation. 2026 GMC 3500 DRW. I did it the install myself pretty quickly (except for lifting the combined rail/cover into the truck). One person on each side to guide and lift while my daughter lifted the weight in the middle of the bed worked well. The few connection screws required fit easily. Seals at the front of the truck and on the tailgate are smooth and complete. I didn't make both sides parallel when first installed. I loosened the middle and tailgate ends of the rails, adjusted the spacing distances, and it's perfectly in align now. One person can very easily expand and contract the top. The two drain hoses won't fit the holes in the truck bed. I'll pickup something from Home Depot or Lowes to append a reducing method. I really like this bed cover!
Should put actual installation instructions with the product inadition with the on line.Something was catching when attempting to operate. Semes to work ok after it broke free.
Received my order in a timely manner. It was an easy install. I’m 65 years old and was able to install by myself.
The instructions were definitely lacking—ended up finding a decent YouTube video. The box itself wouldn’t fit between the rails on the inner sides of the bed (see pics), so I had to use prybars to seat it past the rails.
Functionality: seems very solid once installed and rollers help it slide easily either direction. I’m not convinced it’ll hold much water out, but that’s partly due to the ram box hinges next to the tonneau rails, then not a lot of pressure between the tonneau and the top edge of the tailgate. I also had a $500 tonneau in the past with weather stripping along the front box to scrape debris from the top side of the tonneau as it retracts into the box at the front of the bed. This doesn’t have that, so it seems debris will accumulate inside the box and I’m not sure how easily it will be to clean inside the box.
Time will tell if this is worth the price tag, but it does feel very sturdy once installed.
I was hesitant to try a canister type roll up bed cover after only having hard covers or a soft roll up above bed cover before. I'm glad I did...
It still gets 5 stars because even though the box for the rails was damaged, no parts were missing and there were no dents or scratches on any of the pieces.
The install was easy, did it by myself in a couple of hours not rushing to get it done but working at a leisurely pace. The only time I needed help was to position it in place after the side rails were attached. The part that took the longest was measuring and adjusting the width between rails from the front to the back to get them within spec so the cover moves smoothly and easily with no binding. The instructions were easy to follow and it is simple to put together and install. Just take your time measuring between the rails and it will glide effortlessly.
I like the size of the canister, it doesn't take up much space at the front of the bed, even though it has 8ft to roll up. It seems as if it will be pretty water repellent with the rubber seals and gaskets. It rolls up easily and doesn't retract fast and slam into the canister. It also rolls out easily all the way to the tailgate. Unlike previous covers I have had, this one doesn't require the tailgate to be closed to work properly. The cover can be extended all the way to the tailgate and you can open and close the cover or tailgate independently of one another. I also chose this particular cover because it had the anywhere lock feature rather than only a few set locking points. The matte aluminum is a nice clean look, and it seems like it will be less prone to sagging in the middle as time goes by. This particular model sits just a little above the bed (the bed cover rails sit on top of the truck bed) but the canister isn't any higher than the rails or the cover itself when its open or closed. It looks seamless and clean.
It's only been a few days since install but as of now, I couldn't be happier having chosen this bed cover. And as always, etrailer makes the ordering process easy and worry free with their vehicle specific fit, fast shipping and fair prices.
