Features to know about

Secure Everyday Gear: Locking Retractable Cover

When you want your tools, groceries, or gear safe from weather and theft, the JackRabbit’s aluminum and vinyl ArmorTek deck makes a big difference. The rigid aluminum slats give it the strength of a hard cover, while the vinyl top keeps a seamless soft-cover look. The built-in key latch lets you lock the cover at any point along the rails, so you can secure your cargo exactly how you want it. Closed and locked with your tailgate shut, the bed is fully protected against prying or cutting.

Full Bed Use Without Removal: Retractable Design

You don’t need to take off the cover to haul larger gear. The JackRabbit retracts smoothly into its angled canister at the front of the bed, leaving your rear window clear. A built-in pull strap lets you close it easily, and it engages along the rails every 12 inches so you can partially cover long items. That means you can keep smaller items covered near the cab while carrying taller gear out back.

Smooth Operation Every Time: Continuous Tension Spring

Some covers feel stiff or jam when they retract, but this one glides open and closed thanks to its heavy-duty spring system. Turn the lock handle at the tailgate and the tension spring automatically rolls the cover into the canister in one smooth motion. When you pull it back out, it stays put wherever you stop. It’s quick to open, quick to close, and doesn’t block your visibility when stored.

Keeps Out Rain and Debris: Water Management System

Bad weather doesn’t have to mean a wet truck bed. The JackRabbit’s water management system channels rain through its side rails and into drain tubes that lead out through the bed floor. The foam seal under the rails and large tailgate seal block dirt and water from sneaking in, keeping your cargo dry through storms and car washes alike.

Clean Look That Helps Performance: Flush-Mount Profile

The low-profile rails sit level with the bed sides for a clean, factory look that doesn’t stick out or whistle in the wind. That flush fit is aerodynamic too, helping to cut wind drag for better efficiency when closed. With its black vinyl-bonded aluminum panels and sleek canister design (10-1/4" tall x 9-3/4" deep), it looks sharp while staying practical day after day.

Low-profile flush-mount design of the Pace Edwards JackRabbit retractable tonneau cover creating a sleek appearance.

Truck equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch and Pace Edwards JackRabbit retractable tonneau cover showing towing compatibility.

Video Transcript for Pace Edwards JackRabbit Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover Spec Review

Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be checking out the line of Pace Edwards JackRabbit tonneau covers. Today, we have it installed on a Silverado, but they're all gonna work the same regardless on what pickup truck you actually have. When it comes to picking out a tonneau cover for your truck, you know, there's a ton of different options out there. And with this particular style, I feel like it's a good general-purpose, middle-of-the-road cover, one you really can't go wrong with. And I say that for a few different reasons.

One of 'em being I think it looks really good, you know, being that it's flush mount, has a modern appearance to it. It's going to actually keep the items inside of your truck bed secure, being that it locks and has aluminum on the bottom side. And with how it fits and everything, it should do a pretty good job of keeping those contents dry. whenever you get inclement weather. As far as how it's gonna look on your truck, you know, it really don't get too much better and that's because this is a flush-mounted system, meaning that the rails that hold the tonneau cover when they're sitting on top of your bed rails, they're super flush and blend in really good.

They don't take up a whole lot of space at all. And these are available in two different colors. So we have the matte black finish, which I'm personally a fan of. It looks a little more modern, at least in my opinion, and it matches the plastic that's on top of a lot of bed rails pretty good. So it helps blend in, but it's also available in more of a gloss black-type finish too.

So you know, if that's your style, you can pick that one up. With that said, you have a vinyl top, right And it kind of puts off that classic tonneau cover look. Some people like it, some people don't. With this particular one, I think it looks good. The vinyls seems to be a pretty high quality, but if you're looking for something a little bit different, there's the same models of these, but completely aluminum.

So you always have that to look into as well. I feel like too with this hybrid style, being vinyl on the top and aluminum on the bottom makes it a little bit easier to operate, feels a little bit lighter, and that vinyl has more give and allows it to roll up a little bit better. But that's just something that I've noticed, not really a huge deal. Some of the things that I myself wondered and a lot of other people, being vinyl, you know, is this thing gonna be all faded and dull-looking after a couple years And I can actually speak from some personal experience. About 2 1/2 or 3 years ago, I got my brother-in-law one of these. Wasn't the JackRabbit, but it was a Pace Edwards very similar to this, and had this same hybrid deal going on with the aluminum and vinyl the top. And his truck's parked outside all the time, and he isn't the type of person to go over the top cleaning everything and maintenance thing and protecting everything. And I was pretty surprised actually. Even after that amount of time, the vinyl did not look bad at all. There's a little bit of fading kind of starting to happen, but I feel like if you went back with some type of product and applied it to the vinyl, it would probably restore it right back to life almost looking new. So if it we inchesre me and, you know, you end up going with something like this, probably it'd be a good habit to get into every now and again to find some sort of product to apply to this vinyl. That way, it'll hold up for a long time. If you do keep expensive tools or anything like that in the bed of your truck, this is gonna help with security, especially if you have a locking tailgate 'cause this has a lock on it and this is also how you operate the cover too. You will turn this, and that would unlatch it and let it roll forward. (lock clicks) But they give you a couple of keys and you lock that down, and then you're not able to turn this. So it would really make it, you know, much more of a challenge for someone to get in here and take your stuff. You know, not saying that this is bulletproof by any means or anything along those lines. I'm sure if you really want it in, you could, but probably not gonna be worthwhile to spend, you know, that amount of time and effort to get into the bed of the truck. Something that you do need to think about whenever you are picking out a tonneau cover is if you ever plan on using a ladder rack or some other type of rail system to hold tools or kayaks or whatever the case may be. And I say that because a lot of times with these style of tonneau covers, they're gonna cover up the stake pockets where you normally put that type of accessory, all right. But there is a solution. So if you ever think you might use something like that or you know you're going to, they make this same cover system that has slots in it. So you can use T-track style accessories and still be able to have the tonneau cover and a ladder rack at the same time. As far as how the cover is gonna work, pretty straightforward, when it's unlocked, you just turn the mechanism about 90 degrees, and that'll unlock it. And it rolls up on its own and it's pretty fast, actually, at least on our truck. I probably wouldn't feel super comfortable with just letting it go. So you can apply a little bit of tension to this strap, and if you put too much tension on it and pull it outward, that's when it's actually going to lock that cover in place here. So it'll roll all the way up to the front of the canister, giving you pretty much full bed access. You know, the canister is gonna take up a little bit of space in the front, but for what it is, it's pretty compact. So even on a short bed, you still got quite a bit of room in here to put items and whatnot. One of the things I do think is pretty cool though, when you go to close it, (tonneau cover clicks) every now and again, you'll hear a click and it'll lock into place. So you can cover the bed up a little bit, (tonneau cover clicks) a little bit more, so on and so forth. So if you have something that you wanna keep covered in there, but something that's taller back here, we kind of get the best of both worlds. As far as the quality of construction goes, feel like it's pretty good, you know. Like I said before, good middle-of-the-road option. All the metal parts are actually made from aluminum, so not gonna have to worry about rust issues and things like that. And for the vinyl covered part, I kind of spoke to that earlier from my personal experience with it. And the seals and everything, you know, so it's a pretty thick rubber seal here that when you close up the tailgate, it's going to push up against it (tailgate thuds) and help create a weatherproof seal. Now with tonneau cover like this on here, it should be water-resistant. You know, I'd be lying to you if I said this is gonna keep every drop of water out of the bed of your truck. This is not, it's not realistic. You know, if you were to go through a car wash or in heavy rains or something, you'll probably end up with a little bit of water inside, you know, if I'm being honest with you. But honestly from my experience, that's more or less gonna hold true across the board just about whatever tonneau cover you end up putting on your truck. With the canister portion here at the front of the truck, probably being the most vulnerable in terms of getting water inside. Or let's say if your cover was closed and you had some snow, light snow on it or it rained, whatever the case may be and you open it up, all that water's gonna go in the canister, right And what they did to help with that is on each corner of the canister, there's gonna be a drain. And so that drain tube goes outside of the truck in between the cab and the front of the bed. And so if any of that were to get accumulated in here, it'll drain out down to the ground and not just sit inside of the canister in the bed of your truck. If you've determined you want one of these more heavy-duty type covers, one of the hard covers like this, but you're not sure about, you know, the canister style or the other style, which flips up into a few different sections, there's a couple of things that you can take into consideration. One of 'em being how do you use your truck You know, a lot of people use fifth wheels and goosenecks and pull them around, and when you're doing that, you're gonna have to have full bed access, right So you'd have to have this rolled all the way up, or if you had one of the flip style ones, you'd have to flip that all the way forward. The thing is with those flip style ones, when you do that, a lot of times, they're gonna block the whole back window and you won't be able to see out. As to where the canister style ones, you're not gonna have to run into that issue. Same as is gonna hold true even if you have a taller load, you know, maybe you put a four-wheeler back here or something that requires you to have this completely open. With a canister, you can keep an eye on it, see what's going on behind you and whatnot. With the flip up ones, again, it's gonna block that back window and lose that visibility. Ultimately, at the end of the day, it seems like a lot of people are happy with this particular cover, and I can see why, you know. You get all the functionality out of it, a lot of the features that a lot of people are looking for, and it looks good too. So I can't really ask for too much more. But with that said, I think that'll finish up our look at of the Pace Edwards JackRabbit tonneau covers.

Had to use parts from my old retractable cover to complete the project .

Looks great. Protects items stored in the bed. Opens up to use fifth wheel hitch. Just what we needed. That's the positive side. It took a long time to get it. It was quite a bit of work to install it. But it does fit well and it appears to be excellent.

Just received my q25 hitch, one end of the box was missing and the other was torn up pretty bad, the two side pieces are scratched up a little, I'll touch them up with some black paint, other than that it looks like it will work good.

Does not fit fully on the rails and the top is very week. As I was driving it caved in in the middle with wind down force. Not a good product for the price. Waist of money as of now.
Not happy....

Sorry about that, Armando. These should absolutely be more durable than that and I must admit to being surprised it failed this quickly. I've had one of these on my Silverado since 2018 and it only ended up failing after I shoved a bookcase into it when it wasn't opened all the way (and it still lasted well over a year after that). I would prefer your experience to be more like mine (even though that will be harder now that this happened). That said, this sounds like you received a defective product and, if you would like, I can get a replacement moving on our end. If you would like to proceed in this manner, or another manner for that matter, just let me know and I will get the wheels rolling.

First WATCH the install video completely to understand the way to properly install (I didn't) After much frustration I stopped and watched the video and installed the cover in about 15 minutes with the help of my daughter. The finished product looks great and it functions as expected. Save the frustration and watch the install video (you tube) from etrailer expert.

Not as easily done by yourself but doable though. Took me about a hour. Looks great. Had questions about the bedcovers on top edge, to leave or remove. See pics. For some reason it was a little snug at backend of truck bed.

Had an issue with cover ping out but called costumer support and they were great. He reminded me to check the fasteners and he was spot on. Tighten up and cured my issues. Would buy it again. Love the look and operation.

Just installed but so far,I love it. Had difficulty installing the side rails while it was sitting on the box in the bed. Tried 3 times and couldn't get it. Took everything out of the bed, placed it on the ground, rotated 90 degrees. This way the rails were installed vertically. Fell into place. Obviously, this way took an additional person, but it worked.

Bed cover is still working great after a year. Only downside is the amount of space that it takes up in the bed.

by:
The bed cover is great. The instructions not to much. They were quite confusing. And the Allen key and socket/wrench sizes in the tools required section were not the correct sizing.

I did the whole install in around 2.5 hours all by myself. It’s doable, but would be much much easier with a second person.

Good choice with the JackRabbit, Howard! I've had one on my Silverado since 2018 and it's still holding up quite well. One piece of advice though, don't shove something like a bookcase into it when it isn't opened up all the way. I sorta kinda maybe did that and have to finesse it to get it completely open now. It still works though. : P I have heard they can be a bit of a pain to install, but I had our installers handle that. So I guess I cheated a little. What are you keeping in your bed?

by:
I like this cover way more than Truxedo Sentry because I can see my fifth wheel hitch to hook it up! I like the sleek design and really doesn’t effect my room in the bed!
by:
Excellent product, sliding the rails through the blanket guides was a little tricky On one side until I realized the blanket shifted in the canister during shipping. That could be stated in step 3 to check for proper alignment before trying to install rails.
Love the cover
by:
I like it much better than my old Flip Pac. It seems about as sturdy as the Flip Pac as well, I anticipated it would be more rigid, but that was only my perception so I did not knock a star off. Very easy to use. The instructions need an update, it looks as though they are now doing a step during assembly. Would have been much easier to install with a second person, like stated in the instructions, but I did manage by myself. Realy like the look and fitment, haven't tested the water tightness yet.

Still looks and works great. The rubber seal at the rear is easy to knock out of the track, Ive done it three or four times now, and it is a little bit of a pain to get it back in the track. I may RTV it in place. The truck rarely sees rain, Ive road tripped it to Colorado twice, Texas once, and Phoenix once with this tonneau on. Everything in the bed stayed dry and clean. I caught snow twice on those road trips, once in Steamboat and once in Flagstaff. Usually if the truck is not on the road it lives in the garage, but it did spend two months outside this winter when I had two dailies breakdown, washed it and Armoralled it and it looks good as new again.

by:
I was really disappointed in this cover. I've had retractable ones on other trucks and this one is cheaper than ones I've had in the past. It has a plastic drum where as better ones are made of stainless steel. The locking mechanize is really difficult to turn and I have already had problems with it. The installation directions are useless.

I would not recommend this cover. If it wasn't so heavy I would have returned it.

I like the look and fit, getting the rails to slide in to the canister was a little challenging - but over all it works well. I will say the clamps have grooves in them to slide in for locking - I had a really hard time getting those to slide into place.
by:
2026 Ford F-350 Super Duty
Had a small cut in the vinyl but I didn't have time to return it. Instructions are basically near ridiculous. I had to reread 5 times and photos are worthless. Ultimately it's installed and working as advertised. Kinda of expensive.

Great service from etrailer! Was backordered, they kept me updated well. When it came in, I was headed out of town so ONE call placed it on hold until I returned. It was queued up to ship when I returned, and that is exactly what happened. I missed the notes in reviews about the video, so I went with the paper. Did a little figuring-out and got it installed, but one side would not roll out. Cant see the mechanics of it in the cannister, so I called Pace-Edwards. They connected me with an engineer who correctly diagnosed the problem, sent the needed part, told me the procedure to effect the corrections, and it is now the best top I've had (and there have been many...). So, the shims that are on the clamps are on the clamps already installed on the rail, not the ones you install. And you need to be sure both sides of the mat are in front of the guide before you install the rails. If you read this review, the take-away is watch the video, heed the advice, and yes, the new tow-beast DOES fit in the garage. If only just...

Still good, but tough to keep it sliding smoothly, it leaks a lot fore and aft, has a tendency to be hard to unlock binds on the passenger side, but still gets out of the way for the fifth wheel, covers front part of bed while towing, and still looks great. I am not aware of a better product that will do what I need and fix the issues I have with this one.

@Larry You lubricate the rails with part # RM-747 to help the cover slide without attracting any dirt or debris that could end up binding the cover. The tailgate seal can be replaced with # PE99CV if it's worn out.

The directions seem attempted but, not updated or clear at all. The screws and bold threads were cheap, strip out easy. It looks sharp but, if a tight seal is needed, this is not it at all. It is for “locking/hiding items, monsoon or snow main protection but, stuff is going to get wet 100%. For a product of the caliber and cost, these types of things create doubt in a product and longevity.

I just love the Tonneau cover! It was easy to install and keeps everything dry and clean. My son and grandson are jealous and want one for their pickups.

its been a year. I like the cover but it does have some issues with the latch not connecting correctly. I would rate the cover a 7.5 out of 10. Mostly keeps items dry unless it is a hard rain.
