Hey everyone. I'm Evangeline, right here at etrailer. Today we're taking a look at how the Rhino-Rack Pioneer 6 Platform fits on the 2021 Jeep Cherokee. The specific platform we have today is the one that's 59 inches long, 49 inches wide, and we have it fitting on the raised rails of our Cherokee. This is a complete kit that you can find right here at etrailer. The most important thing is, does this look good on your vehicle This was very easy to install.
Once you have it assembled, it covers most of your roof while still giving clearance in the back for your antenna, to be able to open up your hatch, and it doesn't overhang too far forward in the front. In fact, it stops right before the end of your window. Your Jeep Cherokee rails are actually gonna be angled kind of like this, where it's wider up front, and more narrow or tapered towards the back. But the platform, well, that's gonna be a rectangle that matches the contours of this side of your Jeep Cherokee. So in my opinion, I think it looks really good, but this is what it looks like.
You don't really have much of an overhang along the sides. You do have good usability of the whole platform, though, along the top. You have channels that are running north to south, which is very Rhino-Rack. If you have any older Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform accessories, they will fit into these channels. If you're looking for extra spots to put items, you can also put them along the sides.
This will also work with your Zwifloc accessories. If you don't want to have to run anything through. The height, this will sit above your roof. And I'm measuring from the glass roof to the top of the platform. It's gonna be three and a half or three and three-quarter inches, depending on where you measure.
If you're concerned about if your sunroof will open, well, taking a measurement from the top of the vehicle to the bottom of the platform, I have it at, well, three-quarters of an inch right here on this side. Now, yes, that will be a little different depending on where you measure, but this is gonna be the closest point. From this point onwards, you're gonna have even more clearance than that. You can see the roof opening right now, and opening this up, while the top part does lift up a little bit, there's still plenty of clearance from that glass roof to the rest of the platform, and this is what it looks like inside the car. So yes, the platform will cover a bit of your sunroof visibility, but so will any other platform. It's good to know that this one works really well. So if you're looking for a cool-looking base system on your vehicle, and you wanna upgrade from a crossbar that just goes straight across, get something with a little bit more cargo space, a little bit more versatility, but also looks really cool on your vehicle, it's good to see that the Pioneer Platform 6 series does fit well on the Jeep Cherokee. Now, a lot of people do mix and match to their front platform sizes depending on what they're planning to get for their adventure. Me specifically, I highly recommend this specific kit, which is 59 inches by 49 inches, because as we saw today, we have a really good fit all throughout. It doesn't sit too far forward or too far back or too much on the sides. It looks really good here on the Cherokee. For something that's super easy to load up on the car, it looks like it belongs there. Product is solid, the instructions are pretty hard to figure out and Rhino Rack does not offer clear instructions for this specific model on their webpage. Over all etrailer was great to work with the only reason I wouldn’t give 5 stars is lack of clear instructions by platform model.
This Rack fits perfectly on my 2022 Altas; I didn't have to change the rails or add anything extra.
Drove it back and forth from North to South CA with no issues, you will notice some extra noise and some drag even if you are traveling with no luggage, but that's expected.
Overall I'm very pleased with this rack; solid and sturdy and with a very rugged look. Given the weight, it might need some effort to take it off, but nothing too complicated; even one person could do it carefully.
Looks great especially with the full rails. However there are 2 little things that it was lacking; when you try to log into site to find measurements for the cross bars it is a pain and took longer than the build to find. I would recommend etrailer include the fitting specs with package or at least email a pdf of it. 2nd item- the package came with hole plugs but no instructions what or how they fit into this. I later found out as I installed this that I had to drill 4 holes to accommodate the tool to tighten the sx legs. Over all great product
The instructions on etrailer were way better than the ones that came from rhino. The rack is awesome seems to be well built I would highly recommend it to anybody looking at doing any over-landing or tent roof camping
The roof rack is great and very useful. The assembly is simple but it was difficult to figure out because the instructions were useless. Mounting on my vehicle was difficult. It was a situation of needing to tighten it once it was in place but not having enough access to the face of the bolt to get a tool on it. Now that it’s up, it’s looking good and because it’s not that easy to fasten it back on, it’s going to stay up there.
Very nice rack. It holds well and not too noisy when on the highway. I did drill a couple holes in the rack to hold my roof top tent down. Also like how many accessories are available for the Pioneer Platform Rack.
Loving my new Ford Bronco Sport Badlands model and the Pioneer Platform rack! With the Bronco Sport being so new, locating quality accessories was a bit of a challenge. I was excited to see Rhino Rack had the Pioneer Platform rack system I was looking for to start my build! Vicki at etrailer was super helpful in finding the parts, as listed on the Rhino Rack website, to make up the system. The etrailer site had not been updated to include the compatibility with the Pioneer System yet for the Bronco Sport. The parts were actually in stock and ready to ship! I’m giving the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform 5 stars for ease of assembly and product quality. Assembly and install took about 3 hours, with several fore/aft adjustment to allow for complete operation and clearance for the Bronco Sports moonroof. This rack is the foundation for the complete “overland” conversion to come!
