Video Transcript for Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Extension with Indicator Lights Review

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be looking at our Mighty Cord RV extension cord. This is a three-prong cord with indicator light and handles here at etrailer. So, this is an extension cord from Mighty Cord. This is gonna be especially useful for when let's say, you're at a campsite and you wanna connect to shore power, or if you want to use a generator.

Since you get two options, 25 foot or 50 foot extensions, you don't have to worry about being stuck in an awkward place and not being able to reach your power source. That's where this extension cord comes in. So, we have our plug plugged into our trailer side and I put our generator a couple of parking spaces over, so let's see if we have enough cord length to reach it. This is also where the heavy-duty cable comes in because you're definitely gonna be dragging this on the ground, so you wanna make sure it's a nice, strong, durable cord as you do. So, all right.

So, from our trailer all the way to our generator, we definitely have enough cord length and this is four parking spaces away, so it's nice to see that this work. So, this plug is designed as a 90 degree plug, and what that means is it plugs into your, in our case, trailer plug and it goes down 90 degrees. We have different styles. We have either a straight plug or a 90 degree plug. The main difference is if you have, let's say, tight spaces or hard to reach spaces, this comes in handy.

So, this is a three-prong 30 amp plug. So, just make sure that you get the right extension cord for your trailer. As you can see, this is what our trailer plug looks like. That's going to be your three-prong plug, and that's gonna be the exact same plug on the male end, which plugs into the power source as well. For your trailer, you will usually have a little note right above where your plug is, giving information for your voltage as well as your amp requirement.

So, just follow that as well as our product pages to make sure you get the right fit for you. As for the plug itself, I kind of like the design. We have this nice purple see-through plastic. We also have our LED indicator light right over here as well as the handle. So, compared to other plugs, which feel more durable because they're made of hard rubber, this is still pretty cool. You still feel the durability but it has a nice aesthetic look as well. And there's also a reason for that design. If you are worried about like if your cord is working or not because you're not getting power to your trailer, this is a very easy way to see if it is the plug or not. So one, you do have that LED indicator light, and two, you can see the cord. So, if one is burnt out, or not working, or you just see that there's a defect there, you can see it right away. We also get this handle which pops out for when you need to disconnect to your plug. And I noticed that that handle is especially useful on the power source side or the male end because then you can just pop it out of your generator or your shore power really quickly. Here on our trailer side, I noticed it's a very tight fit, which is good because then you know your cable isn't disconnecting when you pull on it, but you may need a little extra muscle just to disconnect it right over here at the trailer. The wire itself is really heavy-duty. Just holding it, feeling it, working around with this in our etrailer parking lot, I can tell that it is strong and that's important because you are gonna be dragging this wire. It is gonna be out there. We even ran our generator over the wire cause we had to get over it, and that was perfectly fine because it is heavy-duty. This is also a 10 AWG wire when that comes to the wire gauge. So, that's gonna be important when it comes to the amount of power goes through. You wanna make sure that everything works together and you don't really have weak links in your plug, and I don't see any for this one. So, all in all, this is really just an extension cord, so the install process is very simple. One thing I just wanna make sure that you remember is to connect the trailer side first. So, let's take a look at the process and see how it is in action. So, we have our female plug and we're gonna plug this right into our trailer. So, get the trailer plug and connect the two right there. Let's go over to the generator side. So, usually you would have your shore power and you just plug into that. In our case, we'll be using a generator just to show how this works. If you are using a generator, make sure it's already running and that you're using it properly then plug that in. Now that we have both plugs connected, you can see that the indicator light is now on, showing that there is power flowing. And since you have those lights, you're able to confirm that there is power going through, showing that this does work. Now, just use this as long as you need to to charge up your trailer, but that's pretty much all there is to using this cord. So, my personal thoughts about this extension cord is I do like the idea of the design where it's see-through plastic, as well as how you have an LED indicator light. Now, it is sunny outside and I could barely see that light unless I looked up really close to it. So, that's just something I wish it could have been a little bit brighter but it's nice to know that it does work. Now, that 50 foot extension is very helpful. You're just gonna have to remember that with the 50 foot extension, it's also gonna be a lot of cord that you have to wrap up and store. So, just keep that in mind and make sure you have a good place for it, as well as maybe some cable ties or a rubber band to secure it. Well, all in all, it works well, it feels strong and durable, and this brings power to my RV. What else can I ask for And that was a look here at our Mighty Cord RV extension cord. The version which has indicator lights and handles here at etrailer..

I am very happy with the purchase. It arrived on time and the package was in fine shape. I used the cable to hook up to a new 30 amp box to run my trailer. It works great. I like the handle on the plugs. Overall I am very satisfied.

  • Running RV AC Units Off Shore Power
AC units require a minimum of 30amp and if you're running two units you'll need 50amp. You're going to need to run atleast a 30 amp outlet from your house. 30amp is going to require #10 wire and 50amp is going to require #8 wire. I ran a 30amp outlet to the outside of wall of my garage and use an extension cord to it from my camper like Item # A10-3050EHLED. You'll need an 50amp to 30amp adapter coming off your camper to the outlet as well Item # A10-3050D90VP.

  • Power Cord Options for 30 Amp Twist Lock Connector on Travel Trailer
Yes, the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord - 30 Amps - 25' Long # A10-3025EDBK will work great for your application. It doesn't have the fancy fault lights that your current wiring does so you might consider using something like the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer # CAM55310 as well which helps check for faults. You can use an extension like the Mighty Cord # A10-3025EH but I wouldn't go above this additional 25' of cord. If you anticipate needing more than that 25' of that initial connector...
