Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Thule Replacement Lock Cylinder

I'm Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be talking about Thule's replacement lock core. Replacing a lock core is pretty easy to do, and if I had to choose between the key or the lock core, most cases, the lock core's gonna be a little bit easier because the thing with this is a lot of times, these lock cores don't have a number on it depending on when you got yours. So, the newer ones typically don't. Some of the older ones will have it. But if you don't have that number on here or you don't have access to that number, it's gonna be hard to get that matched up to the right key.

So, there's a couple things you can do. If you still have your key, you can just simply look here. Right underneath the handle is gonna give you that number, and then you can find the lock core that matches it. But if you don't have that key and you just need a whole new set, you can actually find a whole new set here on our website. Now, when it comes to installing this, this doesn't take a whole lot.

You do need to make sure you do have a master key. Also, you can find that on our website. The way this works, you'll push that key in here and it will retract the sides and secure it in there. With that in there, now we can lock it down. But there's not a whole lot else to it.

I think these are just gonna be great if you need to replace a lock core or two on your roof rack or any of your other accessories you might have. Now, of course, if you guys have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer. And again, I'm Matt, and thanks for watching.

  • How to Replace Drilled Out Lock Core in Thule Roof Mounted Cargo Box
So I'm guessing you got enough of the lock core drilled out to unlock it, is that correct? If so, you might be able to use the change key like # 853-1251 to remove the core and replace it with a lock (and key) keyed to the remaining lock if it's not too munched up. If what remains of the lock is too chewed up, I'd recommend continuing to drill out the core, going up in drill bit diameter one size at a time. The idea is to remove as much as the lock core as possible WITHOUT chewing up the...

You may need to push slightly up or down while pulling out the lock otherwise the key will just pull out. To put in the new lock cylinder insert the change key into it then push the whole assembly into the lock hole. Hold the lock face with your...

  • How to Purchase Thule Lock Cylinder to Match Existing Key
You would simply order a lock cylinder keyed to your existing key. For instance, if your key number was 123, you would order lock # THLOCKN123. Replace the 123 with the number of your existing key. You can type the part number into the search box on the home page of our website to order online.
