What's up everybody, it's A.J. with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this replacement surge module for your 30 amp Power Watchdog smart surge protector without EPO. This is gonna be that part that you replace on the inside here after a few surges and down the line at burns out, you don't have to buy a whole new unit you can just get this part, we're gonna open it up and put it in there. You got a Phillips head screwdriver, I'm gonna remove these six screws all around. The next step is just to unscrew the cap on the plug side, and now you should pull it apart.
Now we're just gonna start pulling apart the plugs, getting that out of the way. All I have to do, is under these three screws here, pull out the bad board and set the new one back in its place. Now we'll just put all the screws back in. With the board screwed back down, just put the plugs back together and just reassemble the whole thing. Really was that easy.
We just used a screwdriver and got them pretty quick. Replaced that board on the inside. Now it should be working like it was brand new. I really like the fact that you don't have to buy a whole brand new one, you can just replace that easy part yourself and now you know how to do it too. After a year, the Power Watchdog continues to work great. I use it a lot to check the condition of the parks power pedestal before I connect my trailer. I also like the fact that I can connect to the unit via the Bluetooth app and monitor the voltage and current being drawn by the trailer. So far the unit works as advertised. I am looking to add some form of cover to the load plug of this unit to help shield it from moisture. I have not had any issues with this, but considering the rain that I camped in during the last trip, I would prefer the electrical connections not be exposed to rain.
