Video Transcript for Husky Rear Mud Flap Installation - 2012 Toyota 4Runner

Today on our 2012 Toyota 4Runner, we're going to install the Husky Liners Custom Molded Mud Flaps, part number HL57921. This Husky Liners' set of mud flaps will be installed on the rear wheel well. Now, to make the install easier, I've gone ahead and remove the wheel. Once you identify the driver and passenger's side, we're going to go ahead and take the driver's side here and match it up with the vehicle. I need to identify the area that need to be cleaned so that we can put a clear film in between the mud flap and the paint. Our clear film will run from the top of the mud flap where it meets the plastic body underneath the vehicle.

So I'll just make a small mark here and then I'm going to take a permanent marker and just make a small dot on the inside that will get covered up when we install the mud flap. Now, I can take some cleaner and we want to spray and clean this area thoroughly. This way, our clear film that we put on would adhere well. Now that we've got our area prepped, there are a few fasteners that need to be removed. Next, I'm going to show you quick tech tip because our clear under laminate film will stretch all the way to the edge of the paint.

There is a pushpin underneath that will get in the way. To make it easier to install the film, we're going to go ahead and remove this pushpin. We need to get underneath the center of the pushpin and pry it out, and then once we had the center pried out, we can go ahead and remove the whole pushpin. Now, I will recommend that you go ahead and clean the area again just to make sure no additional dirt got in the way. Now, we're ready to go ahead and install the film strip.

To do this, we're going to apply a soak and water mix then we'll take the pre-cutout strip and put it in place. I'm going to start at the bottom edge of the paint and work my way up. Now, we're taking a squeegee or a sponge, or even a household soft spatula. We're going to go ahead and squeegee the water out from underneath the film strip. We want to push all the water and air pockets out from underneath.

Next, we're going to go ahead and allow our film strip to dry and set up nicely before we can install the mud flap. Now that our film strip is set up, we're going to go ahead and go back underneath. We'll remove our pushpin tab. I'm going to take a sharp razor blade and cut a slice through the film strip so we can reinstall the pushpin. Now with our pushpin reinstalled, we'll move on to the next step which is removing the three fasteners on the inside of the wheel well. These pushpin fasteners will be removed and will not be reinstalled. Once again, we're going to pry the center of the fastener out and then remove it. Now, to install the mud flap, we'll be using three screws. In order to install the screws, we need to install three new fasteners. These are going to go behind the inner wheel well and snap into place where we just removed the pushpin fasteners. Now with our fastening hole down is in position, we'll go ahead, put our mud flap in position with the screws provided, and with our three fasteners installed, we can go ahead and reinstall the wheel. And that will complete the install of our Husky Liners, part number HL57921, on our 2012 Toyota 4Runner.

How much wider and taller are these over stock mudflaps on a 2012 4Runner Trail Edition? Thank you

Patrick B.

We do not have a Trail Edition here to compare to, but I can provide some measurements on the Husky mudflaps. Overall width is 11-3/4 inches, overall length is about 17-3/4 inches. The portion that extends below the bottom of the fender measures a little over 6 inches.

I love them. They work great and look great. I did notice the other day that one of the mud flaps was missing a locking piece. Not sure if you can help with that. Thanks for reaching out.

Not a problem at all. I just got of the phone with my contact over at HuskyLiners. They'll have some hardware on the way either tonight or tomorrow. It'll arrive via USPS.

Courteous, knowledgeable, quick

The mudflaps installed easily for the most part. I still have to drill some holes for the rear mudflaps. I need a right angle drill, so I don't have to remove the dually wheels in order to drill the holes. These seem nice and sturdy and well made. I am not sure of the length of the rear flaps yet, seems they should be longer than they are. Good product, haven't tried them out yet to see if they deflect debris well. I am hopeful.

by:

The mud flaps are perfect and fit well. Can not beat the price also. I am including some photos of them installed. Installation was easy and they look great.

by:

Installed easy, good looking product. Did NOT have to remove tire to install, just turned the wheel and it allowed lots of room. Sturdy.

by:

It took me less than 5 minutes to put both mud flaps/splash guards on my Lincoln MKX. This should stop the front tires from spraying water all over the side of my car. I originally tried to get Ford mud flaps but they don't make molded ones like these. They look great. etrailer was great in getting out to me and following up. Good product and great supplier.

by:

I installed these Mud guards on a 1996 GMC Dually with factory dually flares.
They fit and look like they belong with the factory dually flares - exceeded my expectations.
All I did was slot two holes to allow for factory variances in panel fit (occurs on all vehicles) and I replaced the supplied sheetmetal screws with stainless quarter inch bolts/nuts for stronger attachment points. Very easy installation.
This fit and custom look is far better than flaps blowing in the wind. Highly recommended!

by:

A very good product. The installation was very easy, and they look great on the car!

by:

Super easy and fast install. Look great. Covers tire tread. Mounted without even having to turn or remove wheels. Removed factory screws, placed guards into position with holes which lined up exactly and re-installed screws. Very pleased with Husky product and etrailer service. Will be ordering fronts now.

by:

Great addition to my truck and they work as good as they look. Super simple install and looks factory equipped. Excellent fit and they appear to be durable also. etrailer is an excellent choice for parts and excellent customer service. Thank you Stacy..

by:

Perfect fit for the S10 ZR2 with factory flares; uses one of the factory mounting screws and then you drill two new holes. Took about an hour to install as I removed the tires. Will have to see how they hold up to the wind - may come back and add a little silicone adhesive for extra security.

by:

These are fantastic! I would buy more, only you know, there's only one place to put the pair.

by:

The mud flaps were easy to install, look great and enhance the appearance of my dually!

by:

Just as easy to mount as the rear. Nothing about these to dislike. Look great. Remove screws position guards in position re-install screws. EASY-EASY-EASY. Very pleased with Husky product and etrailer service

by:

Perfect fit front & back...Easy installation, so easy the wife could have done it. Excellent customer service too.

by:

Decent mudflaps, quality seems to there, have to take rear wheels off ti install, but I expected that. Only thing that would have made this a better deal is if there would have been speed nuts for all the screws

by:

Decent product, quality seems to be there, was able to install with front wheels still on, only thing that would have made it a better deal is if there were speed nuts for all the screws,I went to harbor freight and bought some

by:

There are good installation instructions. If you have any questions watch the installation video found on the web site. There were no problems with the installation. They secure firmly to your vehicle. I chose the Husky mud
guards over the WeatherTech because of their appearance and the way they secure to your vehicle. With fall rains the leaves and needles are caught by the mud guards and not kicking up on my truck.

by:

Website was good about choosing which mud flaps were right for the vehicle. I ordered, and within minutes received a phone call from etrailer saying they were on back order and would be shipped on a certain day. Sure enough, they were. The flaps are far better quality than came from the dealer (the back ones). Instructions are easy, and the flaps fit exactly on my truck, and very easy to put on. Holes matched perfectly, and they're on in just a few minutes.

by:

Another great experience at etrailer. After quite a bit of research, decided on the Husky Mud Flaps. Came with full instructions, and after confirming the fit, I had all 4 installed in a couple hours.

They look great, and more importantly, they will do the job of keeping most of the rocks and mud off of my 2018 Ram 3500.

by:

The mud flaps are perfect and fit well. Can not beat the price also. I am including some photos of them installed. Installation was easy and they look great.

by:

Easy to install and looks great. One year later they look like new. Great quality AA++

by:

Great fit! Easy to install on my 2007 SD 250 w/Factory Fender Flairs. I received a call from one the trailer reps to let me know my order would be delayed. The unit was out of stock. I was offered to have my shipment delivered direct from the manufacturer at no cost to me. What a great company to deal with...I will be ordering other items in the future.

by:

Product arrived as stated and in great shape! I would recommend etrailer as your one-stop-shopping place. They have it all and great customer service, best shipping bar none. Many thanks from a very satisfied customer.

  • Husky Liners Mud Flap Fits for 2013 Toyota 4Runner
Add-on fender flares are hard plastic flares added to the metal around the wheel wells, typically found on the Trail models. The add-on flares are what will prevent the mud flaps from being used. If you have the metal flares that are formed into the steel around the wheel openings, and do NOT have the factory running boards, the front mud flaps you referenced, part # HL56921 will work just fine for you. If you DO have the running boards, but NOT the add-on fender flares, the rear mud guards...
