Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the MORryde Heavy-Duty Tailgate Hinges for your Jeep Wrangler TJ. Now, this is a custom fit part, these are designed to fit the 1997 to 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models, and on a custom fit part like this one, I do recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now, this kit here will upgrade your factory hinges using these heavy-duty tailgate hinges. These hinges here are built to last, they'll provide additional support for your MORryde modular tailgate accessories that we do sell separately, and these will upgrade your factory Jeep tailgate hinges. Sometimes your tailgate might start sagging, because of the worn out hinges, this will help restore that sagging tailgate.
Also wanted to mention, this is one of the only ones that'll have a grease zerk fitting in the hinge here, so you're able to keep the tailgate operating smoothly by just catching your grease gun to that and pump grease in there to lubricate the hinge. And it also uses rugged bronze bushings, which make it very easy to replace. Does have a nice rugged black powder coat steel finish on you can see, it'll stand up to elements. And it is a bolt-on installation, comes with the included hardware, no drilling required, you just remove the factory hinges and replace with these heavy-duty hinges. Besides the hardware, they do even contain a little packet of anti-seize lubricant to help when you go to install it, put these on the bolts to keep it in place.
These parts are made in the USA. But basically, comes with two hinges, and you can see basically when you install these onto your Jeep, you'll be able to rotate your tailgate out to open it and then rotate it back in to close it. They are made in the USA. And again, the application we mentioned, for Jeep Wrangler TJ models. Very happy with the product. I looked at a lot of hinges before deciding on these. The quality is great, something I doubt would be the same with the cheaper options. Installing was very easy. Thankfully I have a 2006 with bolt heads and not the torx nightmare. Would buy again if I had another Jeep. Buy once cry once. With that said etrailer had the best price on these hinges.
Put these on my 06 Jeep LJ, along with the Morryde tailgate reinforcement kit. Just what I need to stop the sag on the stock tailgate and hinges. Holds my 90 lb spare and opens and closes, no issues. Very pleased with this purchase

All went well the quality is first class the install went smooth till it came to the 3rd brakelight contacts.
I worked around that and I am happy they are on there the OEM hinges were sprung made for really having to slam the gate now I closed as it should

Great would do it again in a minute.
I like the heavy-duty aspect of the hinges. I like the fact that the hinge pin is greased. I like the wider swing radius of the gate.
The major reason for the 4 stars is that I had to drill out two hinge mounting holes (on one of the hinges only), in order to match up with my jeep tailgate holes. The hinge hole locations for the tub mounting screws were fine.
This coupled with working outside (partially covered), during a weeklong period of on-and-off rain, and having to drill-out four of the eight mounting screws on my 2000 TJ, unexpectantly prolonged the process.
For a couple of days, I had to run around with one old hinge, and one new hinge making use of my tailgate impossible.
I suggest perhaps elongating the mounting holes slightly, by maybe half a screw/bolt diameter, left-to-right, to the tailgate hole as a possible solution. In my case, I believe that the hinge holes (for the tailgate only) in question were placed too far apart for proper alignment.

Absolutely a high quality product.
Beefy as heck and the powder coat finish is great!
Beefy. Fit perfect. Pinched the crap out of me, but that was my fault.
Should have done it sooner. Hinges are great. Be careful tightening the stainless bolts into the mild steel. I spun one out. Had to drill a hole on the inside of the door to fit a washer and a nut. Able to put the spare tire back on the door after years of leaving it in the garage. Again, should have done it sooner.
So much better than the stock hindges. Look quality built. I sure when I add my 35”” tire my gate will not lower. If I have a problem I will let you know.

Still holding the load of spare tire good.
These are nice replacements for the worn out originals. Actually much better. Easy to install and the grease Val e lets you keep them working right! Very pleased.
Top hinge hit aftermarket LED rear brake light. Had to do some modification to light so hinge would fit.

Its been a year now and the Morryde system is still working awesome. I have not had to make any adjustments since the initial installation. The hinges are also the wide swing type which is a very nice feature. I did not want a separate swing out carrier because most have a tendencey to rattle. This system is an awesome an proven design. Highly recommend and will purchase again for my next TJ
