Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this custom fit driver's side liftgate gas strut. Now this has been designed to fit your 1995 to 2004 Subaru Legacy wagon, and your 2000 to 2004 Outback sedan or wagon. On custom fit parts such as a strut, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer. Just input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. So this gas strut is a direct replacement for a worn out or failing liftgate strut on your vehicle.
Its job is to smoothly lift the latch open and hold it there so you're not fighting gravity or worrying about it dropping on you. Inside the strut, there's a dampening groove that's going to prevent bouncing, which means the lift gate's gonna open and stay steady and hot or cold weather. When you're closing the lift gate, the struts gonna slowly compress instead of slamming shut, giving it a controlled smooth feel. It also has an internal wiper that's going to keep the rod lubricated with oil. That's gonna reduce friction, prevent sticking and help the strut last longer over time.
Installation's gonna be quick and easy. No special tools. It's gonna snap right into your vehicle's factory mounting points. The body side uses a bracket connection as you see here, and the shaft sides are gonna be a ball and socket. And then this does include a ball stud and washer here.
And this strut is built to resist rust as well. We have a black powder coated steel tube and a nitrite coated rod fully extended. This is going to measure about 25-5/16-inches. When it's compressed, about 13-9/16-inches. And something you probably already know, but just an important tip, liftgate stretch should always be replaced and pairs we inchesre applicable.
Most vehicles use one on each side and replacing only one can cause uneven stress. It may damage or warp the liftgate hinges over time. So again, this is going to be for the driver's side, but if you're looking for the passenger side, the good news is we do carry that one as well. On your screen, I am including our model number for the passenger side. You can take that model number, pop it in the search field of our website. That will take you to that.
