Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most trunk lids have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your trunk lid stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your trunk lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this custom fit trunk lid gas strut. Now this has been designed to fit your 1986 to 1989 Acura Integra Hatchback. And on custom fit parts such as the strut, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer, just popping the year, make, and model of your vehicle. And our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. So this is a replacement gas strut for your trunk lid.
It's the part that's gonna help your trunk open smoothly and stay open. If your current strut is worn out or weak or letting the trunk slam shut, this is going to fix that issue. So when you open the trunk, this strut is going to extend to lift the lid and hold it securely in place. Inside the tube, there's a dampening groove that prevents bouncing, so the motion's gonna stay smooth in hot or cold weather. When you close the trunk, the struts gonna compress slowly, which is gonna keep the lid from slamming shut.
And this is also designed to last. There is an internal wiper that's going to keep the rod lubricated with oil reducing friction and preventing sticking over time. The steel tube has a black powder coat finish and the rod is nitrite coated or nitrate coated rather. So this is gonna work together to resist rust and corrosion. Insulation's gonna be quick and tool free.
It does use a ball and socket connection as you see here. That's going to snap right in. You are going to get these ball studs here with washers, so it's gonna be a pretty simple installation. And then when this is fully extended as I have it here, measuring center of socket to center of socket, we're sitting about 33-1/4-inches. And then when it's compressed about 19-11/16-inches.
One important note, most trunks do use two struts, one on each side so it is strongly recommended to replace them as a pair. Replacing only one can put like uneven stress on your hinges and potentially cause damage over time. If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this or anything that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out.
