A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the TorkLift Tie Downs-TL29PR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at these TorkLift Talon Custom Frame-Mounted Aluminum Rear Camper Tie-Downs. Now these tie-downs are going to give you an attachment point at the rear of your truck bed for securing your bed mounted camper. These are custom fit tie-downs that are designed to fit various versions of the 2013 to 2018 Ram 2500 and 3500s. To confirm that these are going to work for your truck, take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com.

Input the year, make and model of your truck and our fit guide will let you know if these will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, the frame mounted design is going to ensure excellent handling because securing your camper to your truck's base, instead of its bed, better distributes the weight to keep your setup from being too top-heavy. The brackets are going to fit tight to your truck's frame, so there's not gonna be any loss of ground clearance. And these rustproof and lightweight aluminum alloy tie-down inserts are going to secure to these durable stainless steel receiver brackets. Now these inserts can be easily removed from the frame mounted brackets, and I'm just going to unfasten the included bail pins.

And what you can do is just easily remove these from the receivers. And these inserts of course are constructed of lightweight aluminum. So they're very light, very manageable yet they're gonna be very durable as well. And so these can be easily stored in the back of your truck's cab underneath the seat, maybe. So it's not gonna be any problem at all managing those aluminum inserts.

Now, when you remove the inserts, these are going to be, the frame mounted brackets are going to be virtually undetectable when they're not in use. And included are these vinyl caps that you can use to just put over the front of the receivers and those caps are gonna help keep out grime and dirt and keep the inside of the receiver clean for when you replace the inserts back into those brackets. Also foam plugs are included to insert into the rear of the brackets to keep out dirt and grime as well. I do wanna point out that these inserts have two different holes that the bail pins will go through. So if your camper is a little bit wider, you're gonna use this first hole here on the insert to have that tie-down point stick out a little bit farther.

And if your camper's a little bit narrower, you can just move it into this second hole. And those bail pins are going to secure these into place. I'm gonna line up my holes here. And so that's going to secure easily in place, giving you that secure connection point for your turn buckles. The high impact powder coat finish is going to add an extra layer of protection to the brackets and inserts. And you're going to get everything that you see here on the table, in front of me. You're going to get two rear tie-down inserts, two frame brackets, the necessary hardware, the instructions. And front tie-downs are sold separately but you can find them for your vehicle again by using our fit guide here at etrailer.com. These are made in the USA and they do have a lifetime warranty. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
