Yakima SkyLine FX Roof Rack Compatibility With Sunroof On 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

Updated 11/21/2025 | Published 11/18/2025

Question:

I’m interested in the Yakima SkyLine FX Roof Rack for Fixed Mount Points - JetStream Crossbars. I have a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and would like to know if this will work with the sunroof. Will I be able to open the sunroof without hitting any of the components? I’m more concerned about someone accidentally trying to open the sunroof while the rack is installed.

Hey Steve, good question. The Yakima SkyLine FX Roof Rack # Y88YD will fit your 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe with fixed mount points. You’ll still be able to use your sunroof with the rack installed, but Yakima doesn’t recommend opening it when the bars are on. The bars and towers sit fairly low, so while they won’t hit the glass, opening the sunroof will cause wind noise or turbulence. Also, some roof rack accessories have hardware that installs below the bar, so that clearance may be reduced depending on what you are using. Most folks just leave the sunroof closed when the rack’s on to be safe.

I used to have a roof rack on my Sienna and opening the sunroof was not a problem but at highway speeds the bars whistled pretty bad so we just kept is closed whenever the rack was installed.

What will you be using the roof rack for?

Thanks for the response. I’ll use it mostly for cargo. No sport equipment racks. Would the Yakima crossbar that overhangs past the towers have more clearance?

@Steve Yes that kind of rack would have slightly more clearance since the bars sit on top of the towers. It would be a difference of about 1". It really just comes down to how much bar space you need, and how you prefer the rack to look.
