Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/16/2025

Question:

Does the rv Everchill refrigerator work with just shore power or does it need power from the battery , also? Currently the fan and compressor is running but it’s not cooling.

Hello again Fernando,

Did the troubleshooting that I sent to you a month ago not work for getting it cool again?

Yes, the Everchill # 324-000119 RV Refrigerator is designed to run directly off a 12-volt DC battery (or shore power), which makes it a fantastic option for RVers who enjoy boondocking or off-grid camping. Since it doesn’t rely on propane or need to be plugged into shore power, it's a very flexible solution when you're out adventuring and power hookups aren't available.

In terms of power usage, this Everchill model is pretty efficient for a residential-style RV fridge. It typically draws about 2.5 amps per hour, but during startup or when the compressor first kicks on, it can briefly draw up to 20 amps. Over the course of 24 hours, you can expect it to use around 60 amp-hours total. So, if you’ve got a fully charged 12V RV battery rated at, say, 125 amp-hours, you could get roughly 2 days of runtime before needing to recharge, assuming you're not running other heavy loads at the same time.

That said, if you're planning to stay off-grid for multiple days, you'll want to pair the fridge with a good battery bank and ideally some solar panels or another way to top off your charge. Without a way to recharge, the fridge could drain a single battery in less than a day under heavy use, especially in hot weather or with frequent door openings.

Do you have solar panels to keep it going? How long of a boondocking trip do you plan on going on?
