Can Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension Be Paired With A Leaf Spring Suspension

Question:

I have a boat trailer with an existing single axle leaf spring style suspension system. I would like to add an additional axle to create a tandeminch set-up but am interested in the axle-less system. Is it recommended to use this system in conjunction with an existing axle/ leaf spring system? What kind of measurements and other details do I need to gather to the correct fit if this is possible? Hey Jerad,

It is not recommended to use a Timbren Axle-Less suspension system in conjunction with a leaf spring system. You can however use Timbren's in a tandem setup. That being said, adding to the suspension doesn't guarantee you'll have more capacity, which I'm assuming is your goal. The frame of the trailer could only be strong enough to handle the original listed capacity so you could end up cracking/damaging the frame even though the suspension can handle the weight.

Adding more to the suspension will likely also throw off your tongue weight ratio. For bumper-pull trailers your tongue weight should be roughly 10-15% of the total weight. Moving where the wheels sit can leverage more on them and less on the tongue weight and vice versa. I've attached a help article link below that goes over placement of the axle to set your tongue weight.

From there you'll need to choose the correct weight capacity for your trailer, decide if you need a drop of lift, and then we'll need to know what your wheel bolt pattern is to figure out what hubs would be the right fit.
