Question:
I have a RotaFlex pin box on my 2017 Vanleigh Vilano 325RL and the rubber cushion has come out. I’m looking to replace that pin box with a Gen-Y pin box or a FlexAir pin box from Curt or Lippert. How would you compare the two and which would you expect to reduce chucking best?

Hey Jim,
When it comes to chucking I'd have to say that the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box # 325-GH-8040 is going to be the better option over the Lippert/Curt Flex Air Pin Box # LC369535. The Gen-Y has a rubber torsion spring design that helps absorb both downward and upward movements from the trailer when hitting a bump in the road. The Flex Air uses an air spring and shock that are great for downwards forces but aren't the best at pulling the trailer back down as it bounces so you'd end up dealing with more road shock travelling through to the truck. The Gen-Y is completely maintenance free so you won't have to air up a spring or test to find the right psi level for a comfortable ride.
It's important that you doublecheck the bolt pattern for your trailer prior to purchase to make sure that you're getting the correct fit. There should be a sticker somewhere on the pin box that lists some numbers that we can use to determine the pattern. If not you can use the attached guide below to measure for the bolt pattern. It's also important to measure your fully loaded pin weight so that you can ensure you're getting the correct Gen-Y pin box. The # 325-GH-8040 you were looking at is designed to work with pin weights ranging from 1,500lbs - 3,500lbs.
