How to Mount a Transom Saver on a Boat Trailer For a 90 HP Mercury Outboard Motor
Question:
Hello... Ive got a 2022 Montauk 170 with a 4-stroke 90HP CommandThrust Mercury outboard motor. Im interested in purchasing your Comfort Ride Transom Saver - 27 to 36 inches Long - Aluminum and Stainless Steel - 315-FXH . Attached are a few pics showing the rear crossbar of my trailer where the Transom Saver will be attaching too. Do you have an optimum transom saver configuration recommendation for my model boat/motor?

Expert Reply:
Transom savers like the Comfort Ride Transom Saver # 315-FXH are more universal design and are not made with configurations with specific boats/motors.
You will want to center the transom saver on the trailer frame a close to center of the motor as you can. Since you do not have a center roller, you will need to bolt the quick-release adapter onto your trailer's frame by drilling a hole in the center of the frame and then bolt the adapter in place.
Once you have the trailer-end attachment of the support mounted, you can set up the support to prop up your boat's motor. The V-shaped end of the transom saver is what will cradle your boat's motor. It fits around the lower portion of the motor. Remove the pin in the support and telescope it out until it spans the area between the trailer-mounted bracket and your motor. If your motor is equipped with a hydraulic tilt and/or trim, you will want to have it raised while positioning the transom saver.
Once the support is in position, reinsert the pin and lower the motor to ensure that there is enough pressure on the transom saver to hold it in place. Then hook the included rubber strap around the motor to hold it in place in the V-shaped cradle. This will help ensure that movement during travel won't cause the transom saver to slip or lose its position.
