Recommended Air Bags and Compressor for Tires On 2002 Ford Excursion

Published 02/02/2023

Question:

I am wanting rear air bags for my 2002 Ford Excursion to help with rear load sagging. Is there an on board compressor system that can fill the bags and also inflate a 33inch tire? Max trailer weight would be 8000 at most. Mostly would be used for topping off trailer ties. What setup would you recommend?

The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2255 for 2WD or part # F2251 4WD are what I recommend for a 2002 Ford Excursion. These air bags offer a bolt-on fit and will do a great job of providing extra support when towing or hauling. In order to inflate the air bags from inside the vehicle, you'll need an air compressor system. The Air Command II Xtreme Duty Compressor part # F2549 is what I recommend for this as it has everything you need for a complete installation, including an on-board reserve tank and air chuck so you can fill up or top off your tires.

The only downside of the Air Command II Xtreme Duty Compressor is the large tank that you need to find a place to mount so if you don't have space, another good option is a portable compressor like the Viair Automatic Portable Air Compressor part # VA89WR which will fill both your tires and air bags.
