Troubleshooting Running Light Not Working On 2011 Subaru Outback Trailer Connection
Updated 05/28/2021 | Published 05/26/2021 >
Question:
I installed part C56040 in my 2011 Subaru Outback. The brake lights and blinkers work perfectly but the running lights do not. I checked the voltage at the vehicle connector - it is all 12 V or better. Voltage at the end of the 4 way connector to the trailer is 12 V for the turn signals and brakes when they are used. The brown running light connection is 4 V when the vehicle lights are on and 4 V when they are off. At no point do the trailer running lights function when connected to the Subaru but they work fine on my other car.

It sounds as though there may be a damaged pin connector in the wiring. I recommend going to the connector on the 2011 Subaru Outback where the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040 connects. Pull apart this connection and check to ensure that all he pins on the harness are securely in place.
You can also check the voltage coming into the connector to ensure that there is not something wrong with the fuses or wiring on your Outback.
