Question:
I own Thule 985 which has 1.25. My car has 2inch hitch. Can you recommend an adapter?

I have a solution for you.
The newer Thule adapters will not work on your older Hitching Post, so you will need a universal adapter.
I recommend the Brophy Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # HT02. It's a sleeve that fits into your 2" receiver and allows you to use 1-1/4" accessories. I've linked to a video review of this reducer below.
Keep in mind that this has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds. So, if that's lower than your current hitch's capacity, then 300 is as high as you can go while it's installed.
