Recommended Truck Bed Ladder Rack To Mount A Roof Top Tent Onto 2013 Ford F-150

Looking at getting into roof top tent camping. We have my 2013 Ford F-150 supercrew and my wifes 2020 Honda CRV without factory rails. So Im trying to decide if I should equip my older high mileage truck or the newer small compact SUV for a roof top tent? The truck certainly provides more cargo space and pretty sure the ladder rack setup on the bed would give me the most load capacity. but the efficiency and newness of the CRV gives us options for distant traveling. Have bought and installed a couple hitches from you guys because of the incredible install videos and the comparison videos you guys have. even bought a bike rack from the videos yall provide. That said, I thought you might have a good recommendation for what type rack and even which vehicle you might suggest for roof top tent camping. Love yalls site and detailed info.

For a roof top tent I would look into the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars - 2 Person - 400 lbs - Tan and Red # Y07436 if you need to fit 2 people, or the Thule Tepui Explorer Kukenam 3 Rooftop Tent - 3 Person - 600 lbs - Haze Gray # TH8001KSK04 if you would like to fit 3 people. The Thule Tepui Explorer also comes in Olive Green # TH8001KSK05.
You cannot install either of these roof tents onto your 2020 Honda CRV since it does not have factory rails. Since the roof racks for your vehicle clamp onto the side of the door jam it will not be able to support the excess weight of the roof rack, roof tent, and people in the tent. So that narrows it down to installing the tent onto your 2013 Ford F-150. Since your 2013 Ford F-150 does not have factory roof rails either, then you will need to install the tent onto a truck bed ladder rack like you mentioned; this is actually the method I was going to recommend to you since truck bed racks will have a much higher weight capacity than any roof rack.
I would go with the Thule TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack - Fixed Mount - 800 lbs - Silver # TH27000XT. With a weight capacity of 800lbs you will not have to worry about easily exceeding it. This also has the top channel for accessories to be installed onto and it fits all bed sizes for your truck.
I attached demonstration videos for these truck bed racks so that you can get more familiar with them. Unfortunately we do not have videos for the Thule Tepue Explorer tents at this time.
